His all, thought this might be of some interest to this group. I made the plunge earlier this year to have my 2003 996 cup restored back to its former glory. The car was driver by Frank Stippler to the 2003 Supercup championship and later raced in PCA. Pre-restroation, the car was in good shape, but had certainly seen its fair share of action over the years with at least one decent hit to the front of the car. Coupled with normal wear and tear, it was time to bring her back.
All work is being done by AJR Restorations. If you get a chance, I would highly recommend checking out the shop. From all the trophies to the various cool cars, it's an amazing part of Porsche racing history. Ken, Theo and TJ have are great to work with and have been keeping me up to date at every step of the process.
First step is to disassemble the car down the car down to the bare chassis and see what we've got. Overall it was in good shape, with only one notable repair to the front. But it's still a 20 year old race car that has seen some action over the years.
"Weekend only car with low miles"
Prior owner had fitted a fuel cell at some point. This was removed and a factory tank fitted, but the scars remained. All this will be replaced.
Someone decided to put straps on the front/rear windows at some point; these holes will be filled. The holes in the middle are from the camera mounted during the Supercup series and will be kept.
New sheet metal fitted in the front.
Slowly getting ready for paint. You can just see the original farnbacher sticker on the cage door bar.
Original rear bumper was in pretty good shape.
Doors were decent, but needed a bit of TLC to repair some cracking
Since all cars were originally ****e, the team had painted the silver. The right side fender was replaced, so we are going to paint the fenders completely silver as that's what we believe was done by the team originally (though it's up for debate).
Wow what a great effort from you and Theo and the AJR crew, would love to see the car in person when completed, it is great to keep these 996 SuperCup cars alive. I know Theo has this one too which is one of my favorite 996 SuperCup.

Yes, I got to see that car at the shop and it’s basically flawless. The AJR Restorations team does very impressive work. Once the car is done I’d like to bring it to a future Rennsport Reunion.
