Recommend Dash Cam for 991.2
Hi,
Can you recommend dash cam (front and back preferred) for 991.2 that is reliable and look good? A vendor told me that I need to install an additional battery as his suggested dash cam (cannot remember the brand) connect to the power through the cigarette lighter socket and will drain battery even when the car is off.
Thanks.

While I have no experience with it, Porsche does sell a dash cam. You can check it out and make your own decision. From what I understand the cigarette lighter power points cycle off after about 30 minutes, so battery drain should not be an issue.

Blackvue makes the best camera on the market. 2-channel front and rear, it can be powered with just your cigarette lighter and it will NOT drain your battery even when the car is off. It will turn off when the car turns off and accessory power shuts down...about a minute or so it seems like.
Blackvue also makes a standalone power unit for the camera, it hardwires into the vehicle (fuse tap) and charges while the car is running and powers the camera while the car is off in case it's needed, like if it's hit etc. I'm sure there's a few places in Houston that are well equipped to install something like this for you.
I'm using a Blackvue now, I would like to hardwire it, I just haven't gotten around to it. I highly recommend it overall.

Blackvue 2 channel.
Hard wired to fuse box.
Records while driving.
Records incidents while parked.
GPS data collected
Zero issues.issues.
Easily read plates.
Great night quality.
There are many options but highly recommend a 2 channel system.

We bought some (2 cars GLA250 & VW) off Amazon and leave them plugged in. Not sure but doesn't the power shut off when the car if off?

Porsche OEM dash cam is mediocre and is not designed to be fitted in a 991.1/2 from factory. If you have a 992, you can absolutely fit this POS.
+1 | BlackVue 2 channel (Front & Rear) any "950 series" 4K front + 1080p coupled with BlackVue battery pack. No need to hardwire, straight plug-n-play.

Garmin Mini 2 front and rear (latter still to be installed). The size of your thumb and out of sight.
Wired to the rear view mirror so no cables that you have to hide to get it to the cigarette lighter or USB. The latter powers off in exactly 6 minutes...I timed it even though I am not using them.

@IXLR8 How did you wire the Garmin Mini 2 into the rearview mirror? Special cable? Any info you can point me to?
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

Pics of the installation.
I ordered up a 12" cable on ebay that went into the Garmin Mini and a USB at the other end. I wired in a 12V - USB board also from ebay. All this is located under the cover by the mirror.
Cable: 90° Left Angle Micro to USB Male. You want the cable pointed or running up from the Garmin Mini.
USB board: a set of three ($1 each). They snap apart. Wires running to the 2 pads and then placed the whole thing in heat shrink.
The USB A and the YELLOW dots run to the Garmin Mini. The USB board is to the left of the USB A connector and not in view.
Info on what tabs are behind the cover. This is the right or passenger side cover.
