Default 991.2 GT3RS Porsche Extended Warranty

Hey all,

Picked up my 3RS .2 yesterday at Porsche in Barrington... by the way, simply STELLAR dealership, people and experience. I cannot recommend enough!

Anyway I opted for the 10 year extended warranty... while I don't normally do so. Cost was just shy of $7k, and full protection for 10 years and 75k miles.

As I said I don't normally buy warranties, but coming from Porsche direct, good at any Porsche dealer, and covering everything except routine maintenance I thought it may save some $$ down the road.

Dumb? Its cancelable, so I thought if the hive said bad deal, I could always do it...

Not only that but the chances of owning the car for 10 years is slim to none.

True and likely transferable to a buyer but likely worth pennies on the dollar in return. Just a bad bet all the way around.

Depends on your holding horizon, if planning to keep the RS for a while gives you peace of mind (I'd personally rather spend the $7K on warranty than PPF lol).

If this is a vehicle you plan on keeping for 10 years, you paid less than $1,200/year to warranty a $200k+ car. I think you did perfectly fine. I mean, even if you do sell the vehicle in 2-3 years you'll still be able to compete in the second hand market vs. CPO cars at dealers, tax savings (depending on state), etc.

Not saying it’s a bad thing, but I was told by my dealer Porsche does not offer an extended warranty other than the CPO on used cars. Yours is likely an extended warranty agreement through a third party which is what my dealer offered. Again, not saying it’s a bad deal, but I personally did not have the same peace of mind knowing it was not a factory Porsche warranty. Can you confirm if this is indeed a factory Porsche backed extended warranty or third party? Thanks

Seems like a decent deal although I'm sure the actuaries who came up with that price have done their hw. Did you have to haggle with them at all? I think anyone can purchase an extended warranty through Porsche as long as the new car warranty is still in effect. At any rate, enjoy the car and post some pictures when you get a chance!

I see ads for cars in the for sale section from time to time that include text similar to "my dealer is willing to handle the transaction and CPO the car if the buyer desires..."
Anyone ever tried to sell their car to their spouse/kid/self through the dealer and have it CPO'd in the process? Seems like (if possible) that could be done before the factory warranty runs out for less than $7k, assuming the CPO cost is only around $3k, and the car would have a Porsche-branded extended warranty.....

taxes, or legality, may make this a nonstarter

Its definitely Porsche... Porsche brochure, Porsche trademarks, and Porsche info... likely your Dealer has their own warranty... Its in the Porsche Financial Services - Porsche Protection Plan.

I can’t comment. I’ve never kept a car for 10 years.
