not going into gear
So I just traded a 991 c2 for a 997.2 c4s cab and I couldn't be happier. I absolutely adore this car, even more than my first Porsche (a 987.1 Cayman S). Quite often if I am driving and put the car into neutral at a stop and then try to go into first I can't, it just won't go. If I then let up and depress the clutch pedal it will usually let me put it into gear. What in the world is going on and should I have a mechanic look at it? The car is CPO from Porsche so.....

I'm not sure it's that uncommon for many manual transmissions to do this. Several ones I've had over the years would occasionally be hard to get back into first at a stop light. When it happens to me, I generally drop down to second, then first and it usually works. However, I also think it's probably a sign to change the oil.

So do you try it once and then put it back in neutral until you see the light in the other direction change to yellow, or do you sit there in first with the clutch depressed? The latter is terrible for the throw out bearing.

I have PTX and it still does it now and then. Very disconcerting when the light turns green and people behind me start honking, because even though I know not to try forcing the lever into 1st, that's my instinctive reaction. The best way is, with the trans in neutral and clutch engaged, blip the throttle once, throw out the clutch, shift into 2nd then 1st. It should snick right in.

Back into neutral for sure after playing with the lever. I rarely sit with clutch in if I can help it. Do appreciate the thought though. Thanks.

My 2010 c2s w/ 40K miles occasionally 'balks' going into 1st gear. What I've found that works from me, is to pull it down to 2nd gear, then it goes back into 1st gear with no issue.

Had the same issue and made me sell the car after only 1.5 years.
If fluid change does not cure this then it is likely synchro rings and apparently parts are hard to get for those Aisin gear boxes.
I wish you luck.
