From when MT tested the .1 GT3 "At the drag strip, the lighter 911 GT3 hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and finished the quarter-mile in 11.3 seconds at 122.9 mph"

On same track it did 1.27.22

That’s what I thought tooo, but looking at the specs, the PDK car is 23lbs lighter. Looking at the price as tested, the manual car is close to base price, but the PDK Car is 170k, so i’m assuming it had the buckets. Not sure what else would lighten the car?

How does the manual weigh more than the PDK? Nevermind, too late...

Interesting they tested a 6MT with extended tank, 4ways and steel brakes v. PDK with LWBs and PCCB. It made the MT heavier than the PDK. Me thinks there is another 1/10 in weight there for the MT at least.

Most interesting thing here to me is performance of brakes. Assuming both cars on same rubber the iron brakes seem to perform much better look at 0-100-0 times.

Can't wait to see the in car footage of Pobst driving both cars. Will be interesting to see if he used rev match and no lift shift on the manual.

Read the entire article. Actually it's likely due to the m/t's gearing... not the brakes. The manual has longer gearing vs. the PDK's so the latter has to upshift/downshift one more than the manual's during the 8 and even that 0-100-0 sprint I bet.... basically, more shifting = time lost. Just like on straight shots or on the track. But all that doesn't really significantly play in the real world of public driving... figure 8's, etc.

In any case both these cars perform above its belt class so to speak, with either transmission. No turbos, no supercharger, no ehybrid...

Thank you... and what I've said from the beginning... difference between Manual and PDK 'best case' is going to be a few tenths on 'most tracks' (especially in the US). And if the Manual had the PCCB and Buckets... it's at least another tenth closer just due to 'reciprocating mass'.

Great review!

Best Regards,
Dave

For sure.... with Randy Pobst driving.

For mere mortals, I bet that difference will be solid seconds when switching to/from.... me included.

Even Randy had some challenges--
“That is a lot more work,” he said, fresh off laps in the manual car. “Way more difficult to do a perfect lap with the manual transmission. I seem to end up halfway between gears a lot, and it was easier to destabilize the car in the brake zone. It’s tricky to do the brake and entry perfectly when there’s a downshift in there. It’s much more tricky to throw a downshift at it than not to. It’s reminiscent of what we have to deal with, with manual transmissions, having to decide what gear you need, and it takes more practice to do it perfectly in one lap. I didn’t get into the magic zone like I did with the PDK, maybe because of the extra work.”

Good work, though, if you can get it.

“The shifter is great,” he said. “It is very accurate; light. It has that slick, Teflon, mechanical feel. Never worried about getting the wrong gear. The only trouble was trying to be as perfect when I have to change gears.”
