To me, a "collector 996" is an oxymoron.

Well, my question wasn't this car vs. a "random" 997. It was this car vs. a nice 35K mile 997TT.

I know which one I'd take. And I think most would take the 997TT too.

Most who love the 996TT, love it because it gives the most bang for the buck. Anyone looking for a Porsche with the most power at the least cost need look no further than the 996TT. Unfortunately this particular car, even if the price is justified given the low miles, takes the bargain part out of the equation.

However, I suspect this particular car may hold value well, if only because almost all 996TTs were driven hard and put away wet, and Porsche deliberately designed them to be used then disposed. I would imagine very very few were bought, held and unused like this car.

Very nice car. It should be preserved, but if you drive it the value will drop very quickly.

That one had a ton of range 1s and quite a few range 2s, and I believe it sat for months on the rooftop, rain or snow.
