I purchased this beauty in March 2016 from a fellow RL guy from this former ad.

Jump over there and you'll see some great pictures, video, etc. and his list of features as:
Manual 6-speed Transmission
PASM Suspension
Xpel Clear Bra on full hood, bumper, front half of finders and rear finders near the side vents (very comprehensive and well done, I might add)
Cayman R Red Front Splitters
Cayman R Black Side Stripes
Cayman R Black Side Vents
Sport Steering Wheel
Heated Leather Sport Seats
Fabspeed Race Exhaust
IPD Competition Plenum and GT3 Throttle Body
20% Window Tint All Around (Conditionally legal in NC, PM me for details)
CDR30 Head Unit with Bluetooth and Aux Input
PCM 3.0 Head Unit without Bluetooth and Aux Input

During my 16 months of ownership, I've added/changed the following:
Added Bluetooth and Aux Port Codes to PCM3
Removed Silver "Cayman S" Rear Badge
Installed Brand New Gloss Black "Cayman S" Rear Badge
Installed GT3 Front Brake Spoilers
Installed Rennline Clutch and Brake Pedals
Installed Porsche Short Shift Kit
Purchased COBB Accessport and a Pro Tune from Steve at Fabspeed
Pro Tune Includes Two Versions, Sport and Non-Sport, so if you prefer Sport Mode, load that Tune and never have to hit a button every single time...
Installed Hawk HPS Brake Pads Front and Rear
Installed Motul RBF600 Brake and Clutch Fluid
Installed Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake Lines (DOT Approved Version)
Installed a Direct Power Wire for an Escort Max360 (radar detector does not come with the car)

The only thing on my list that I didn't get around to was tinting the tail lights to complete the "black" package. A guy in our local PCA has his Guards Red 997.2 done and it looks awesome! I was tempted to do it before listing it, but the new owner may not want it, so I decided against it. Suncoast has $55 kits for this.

Why I am Selling

Initially, I bought this as a "track toy" and weekend car. I've done three DE weekends in this car and my face hurt after each one because of the constant perma-grin for two days. The "problem" is that I'm just not driving it very much in between track events and my OCD-ness keeps me from letting loose on the track because it is just so pristine. You'll see in the track photo below that I tape areas not covered by the XPEL and use different wheels/tires. You can also tell by the DME report and Oil Analysis that I don't abuse it on the track. BUT, I absolutely LOVE the 987.2 platform!!! They are quick, nimble, simple, easy to work on, comfortable and fit me just right, etc, etc. So, I had the brilliant idea that if I switched to a Spyder, I would:
1. Use it more in between track events
2. Not have to install a harness bar in my desire to try a DE in race seats
3. Be able to easily add and remove the race seats for track events
4. Appease my 5 year-old who really wants me to get a convertible

I was considering a Spyder when I found this Cayman, but didn't want to spend that much on a "toy". But when you do it in phases... Anyway, I started looking aggressively for Spyders a couple months ago and low and behold one that was 90% ideal for me popped up at my local dealer!!! So, it's now in the stable and the Cayman needs to be in the hands of a new owner who will love and drive it more than I will.

What Makes It "Dialed-in"?

The PO had BGB add the IPD Plenum, GT3 TB and Fabspeed Race Exhaust. When I called BGB to do my due diligence, he said, "All that thing needs is a tune" and he was right. So, "dialed-in" is the best PG-rated description I can give it. My local Indy in Raleigh, NC is Gabe Watson at GT Performance and he builds plenty of cars faster than mine and he was impressed and I don't even run the "Sport" version of the tune because I prefer the "Normal" throttle mapping. But, I am able to A/B them on the track to see which one I would prefer. So, factor that $800 "savings" into the ROI of the COBB Accessport. I've had Cayman R owners drive mine during the Parade Laps of the DEs and they ask, "What did you do to this thing?!?!" Granted I'm in the lowest (Green) run group, but in the video linked below, I'm passing others like they are sitting still. Maybe it's because this car is "confidence inspiring" as Gabe put it.

What's "Wrong" With It?

One blemish is a small windshield crack that I actually got on the road coming home from a DE... Go figure. I had Safelite do their thing the next day to stop it from spreading. I simply didn't want to hassle with changing out the windshield, my NC QuickPass, etc. Plus, I'm not sure if replacing it will "ding" me on my insurance and drive my rates up since I've been claimless since 1995. But if the next owner wants me to replace it, I will. The only other blemish is a pencil eraser (the small one on the end of the pencil) sized paint chip out of a rim spoke that was there when I bought it. I'm happy to send a copy of the CarFax I ran on the car prior to my purchase.

Unique Options Offered In This Sale

The original listing price includes everything detailed above. But, if you're worried about "aftermarket" accessories, the price may be reduced by removing any of the following:
Rennline Pedals
Cobb Accessport and Pro Tune
IPD Competition Plenum and GT3 Throttle Body
Fabspeed Race Exhaust
PCM 3.0
Hawk HPS Brake Pads
Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake Lines

It matters not to me as I'll be moving anything not wanted by the next owner over to my Spyder because I want the same "feel" and performance in that car. And the Fabspeed guys would love to sell me another Pro Tune.

Maintenance I've Done Since March 2016

I'll send you the spreadsheet of the entire maintenance history that I logged after combing through all the receipts given to me by the PO. Below are the things done while I've owned it.
9/3/16 @ 30,271: Spark Plugs, Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Cabin Air Filter, Brake and Clutch Fluid Flush with ATE200
10/3/16 @ 31,165: Brake and Clutch Fluid Flush with Motul RBF600
3/26/17 @ 32,777: Brake and Clutch Fluid Flush with Modul RBF600, Oil, Oil Filter, Oil Collection for Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis
7/26/17 @ 33,875: New Clutch Slave Cylinder by Gabe Watson at GT Performance

Videos

No critics... Remember, I'm in Green and we can only pass on the three straights. Man, watching these brings back that perma-grin.

My car from behind:

My view of that clip:

The rest of that run where Damon and I carve up the field (passing 3 in one backstretch at 6:40, 997 Turbo at 8:45, PDK CR at 9:20)

Pictures

I've got lots of pictures and will add several below and can send others as needed. These were all taken with my iPhone.

Thanks for looking!

This is a great car, the only car I have regretted selling! I was very miticilous as well when I owned this car, I want to buy it again but is paying sales tax on a car twice silly...

Thanks Barron! Think of it as NOT having to pay property taxes that one year.

I did want to add a couple more pieces of info:
1. I'm the third owner. Barron was the second. Not sure we know who the original owner was.
2. The shift cables were replaced by Barron around the 20,000 mile mark if I remember correctly.
3. I just had the clutch slave cylinder replaced last week because it started weeping about two weeks prior. I knew something was up because by the end of the second day of my DEs, I would start having issues with the clutch pedal. But after the car cooled off while I helped buddies load their rigs on trailers, etc, it was better, but still not "normal". I would bring it home, flush it and it would be back to perfect and be totally fine until the end of the second day of my next DE. I was just thinking it was something with all the heat that builds up where that slave cylinder sits atop the transmission, but then found no posts of others having the same issue. Even as it was weeping a few weeks ago, it still felt completely normal. But alas, mystery solved.
4. You'll notice some warning lights in the DE videos. One is TPMS because I run track wheels without TMPS. The other is a CEL due to the mods, basically that the ECU isn't accustomed to seeing this much airflow through the engine. Even still, that CEL only comes on during 1 or 2 out of 5 sessions each day. And it resolves itself after some time. I could probably have Steve do a little more tweaking of the Pro Tune to address it, but it didn't bother me enough to log a full day of sessions to "catch" it since I'd rather have my GoPoint BT1A plugged in for the telemetry.

Great looking build and mods for occasional track duty.

Does the lack of TPMS cause any issues other than a dash light?

Default TPMS answer

None at all. Light goes away as soon as I get home and put the regular wheels back on and drive down the street a little ways.

Beautiful car, and great build. Had I gone back to the CS platform I would have done a lot of the same.

Planet 9 has a ton of Cayman drivers, did you list the car there as well?

Thank you. I just started here and with my local PCA and I'll add it to national PCA next. I've posted stuff on Panjo, but their fees are outrageous. Is there another way to do it on P9 like it is here?

Default More Info

I thought of a couple more things:
1. I did a full PPI with compression check when I bought it from Barron. Receipt is attached. The guy told me I was wasting my money, because he had already run the DME Report, but there's an interesting story with one of our local Porsche owners and them getting one out of six new plugs from the dealer that was a bit too long.... Plus I'm risk-averse and the peace of mind was worth the extra $$. You are certainly welcome to hook up your own Durametric or get your own PPI done.
2. I did the "stuff the subwoofer" mod listed here and it makes a BIG difference. I recommend this to everyone who has this sub in their car.

Wow this seems like a nice car. Good luck with the sale. I'm still waiting to close out some issues with my car... depending on how it all ends, if yours is still available when it's all done, I may be calling.

This car makes me sad that I'm still in college and can't afford to buy it! Beautiful car. Looks like a blast to drive.
