SSI's are basically stainless steel copies of the original Porsche Header/heater design before emissions issue arose. They are designed for performance and are an upgrade over your stock exhaust system.
You would need a two in muffler then and Dansk makes very nice mufflers in the Porsche style/tradition that are both throaty when stomped on but quieter for normal driving (no drone)....the SSI's and their sport muffler are a great addition to a stock motor.
An open muffler (one that makes more noise because of less baffling) on a stock motor usually softens or moves the power band (torque) higher on the rpm scale....so, instead of feeling the power at 3200 rpm....it now comes on at 4k rpm. Louder/open flow mufflers can make more HP but usually, on a stock motor, only at or near WOT (wide open throttle)....exhaust is tuned just as your intakes are tuned.
Now, if you drive at wide open throttle and 6k rpm all of the time a loud open muffler would be fine....most do not....and, after awhile the drone drives folks nuts...see how many look for 'pipe baffles' after purchasing some after market mufflers.

SSI does not make mufflers. SSI's are basically new exhaust headers and heat exchangers. They require a dual inlet muffler. So, if you have a single inlet muffler, it will not work with SSI's.

The SSI's connected to a Dansk sport muffler is an awesome combination, especially on a 911SC.

I have a question. Does the SSI-sport Dansk combo provide a performance improvement on a 3.2 l Carrera? Seems like I read somewhere that the 3.2 l engines had a redesigned, more efficient, exhaust system compared to the SCs.

The 02 sensor is for my wideband AFR gauge in place of the clock...FYI

I doubt the stock 3.2 exhaust is any better than the old 82/83 3.0....about the same actually with the emissions control. Neither are optimum.

What you have heard is that some think the header pipe diameter on SSI's a tad on the small size for a 3.2 as opposed to the 3.0.

I’ve had SSI headers on my 79SC since 2001 with dual out Dansk exhaust. I like the sound and the dual out straight back look. Dual out can be considered loud by some so you should find a setup to hear in person.

i tried to perform a pre and post performance evaluation of the SSIs here.

If you are looking to increase the sound without being annoyed by drone, we offer a great system for the the 911 platform.

I would suggest going with the Maxflo Mufflers with our European Pre-Muffler Catbypass Pipe. That will give you a nice rich throaty sound under acceleration but still be moderate around town.

JLnipp....
I went thru a few dif types of muffler set up until I got the SSI's in my pic above....I went with some open flow very nice looking units that were well made and promised more HP. They really did not...the made my mid range torque mushy, move the rpm sweet spot 500 rpm higher and only really 'performed' at near wide open throttle. They did make more noise.
They would likely work great on a modified motor...higher comp, aggressive cam and more CC's.
Be very critical of 'more HP' claims unless they show you a dyno of a STOCK motor making power above stock thru the whole range....many makers legally claim more HP because an open flow will do that...but generally only at WOT (wide open throttle) where no one normally drives...and, honestly, not all dyno's are 'equal' in this world...temp/induction etc...
Take your time and talk to some 911 engine builders about stock units....you've already had a good suggestion from the owner of this site.
Luck with it.

I agree, RIP Warren. I never knew what he did as a vocation, but he knew a ton about engines & 911s.

Its Joe at Fabspeed Motorsport.
a catbypass pipe European style premuffler works wonder on 911 SC and 3.2 liter Carrera cars.
The Unique item my team and I developed was a single Inlet and single or dual outlet Sports exhaust for all late model 911 cars.
You can run a single outlet muffler on the 911SC/3.2L Carrera and in a few minutes Uncork the RIGHT side outlet CAP-OFF and slip-on a matching Fabspeed exhaust tip.

The system sounds great and we supply all new German Wurth hardware and a waterjet cut stainless steel mounting bracket for the 911 rear engine bracket.

The factory 911 headers in conjunction with a catbypass pipe/ European premuffler and a rear maxflo or highflo sports exhaust will gain as much power as SSI style headers on these cars and any owner can quickly and easily reinstall their factory catalytic converter or an aftermarket high-flow catalytic converter to pass emissions testing. This is another advantage of using stock OEM Porsche headers if the headers are not rusted out.

I had heard rumors he was a NASA engineer, but as I said, all rumor...no proof. He did know his stuff!

Absolutely. I never met him but had a lot of respect for his knowledge; and he freely shared it.

RIP
