Default Post Irma Update from Flat 6 Innovations- All Porsche cars are safe!

Our neighbors to the south will be rebuilding for months, weeks, and years.. Before the storm I delivered 3 rescue vehicles to Tampa, and it took 16 hours to drive what is typically a 7 hour drive...

They will remain in our prayers... Anything we have pales in comparison to their lives right now.

We made it out with no damage to customer vehicles.. That was my main concern when we spent 2 days prepping for the storm. Though we are in the N Ga mountains we had several strong bands of wind and rain with sustained winds over 40 MPH for hours. In our local town there were gusts to near 70, but being atop the mountain where we are I am sure that we had much more than that.

I spent my time at the Training Facility 2 hours south, since the weather was predicted to be worse there than at the main shop, but that was wrong... I am now inbound to cut up trees so we can access the main facility. We have several monster trees down that are over 100 years old.

So, in summary, all customer cars are ok, we have no power, and likely won't for days to come. We may be able to work with an improvised generator that I have as a back up plan. Our employees have suffered losses at their homes that must be taken care of as a priority as well..

So... This will certainly put us behind schedule on completions for months to come, especially considering we don't know what damage was incurred to our equipment during the strong power surges that we had yesterday.

Everyone and every Porsche is safe. Our buildings are strong, and we will do whatever we can to get back on schedule ASAP.

I wanted to post this here to help spread the word. Don't try calling us, the phones are out too.. I'll post some pics later.. We got lucky, we could have 30 destroyed vehicles here.

More later.

The facility sits atop a mountain... We are 300' higher than anything surrounding us... The building that corrals the Porsche's here is also built at the highest point on the property... One thing we never have to worry about is flooding. Not even any tires got wet on these cars.

Glad all is well and everyone is safe. Rebuilding is the tough part though, good luck with getting back up to speed. Lot's of casualties from the storm, so it's nice to hear you were able to save some.

No, you're right Billy. He doesn't have time to read crazy threads that go south (no pun intended). I enjoyed them though!

This is what he's been busy with... restoring this for the recovery efforts.

Jake, I hope you don't mind me posting this picture. I did have a picture of three of these monsters on a trailer going to south Florida, but I can't find it.

Jake, is this the exact truck (i.e. TAC 301) you repaired?

Phew! Otherwise, catastrophic MOF #216 would have been "Irma."

Thats it.. those vehicles all fell into disrepair after 5 years with no storms in Florida. I just finished resurrecting the whole fleet and delivered them back to Tampa before the storm.

Anyway, we still have no power, but I did rig up my generator to power most essential circuits in one of our 3 buildings.... so the office can function.

We spent the rest of the day removing trees.. Got one driveway open.

Still have a long long way to go, but it could be much worse.. much, much worse.

This will easy put us weeks behind.. Looks like the power surge took out several pieces of equipment

Good to hear the shops/cars/and people are safe.

I hope they can make good use of the vehicles you brought down.

Those monsters would do well in the flooded areas

Glad to hear things turned out relatively well. It is a bummer about the family and friend losses, and hope everyone gets back to normal life as soon as possible. I will see about getting a toffee order up to Raby mountain to help out!

Here's an update....
We just got power back at the shop last night. All the trees are cut up, and we were able to thrash and host the 914 World Okteenerfest on Friday. Its been planned for 6 months, and it was a close call.

Now that we have power, we can see what else got damaged, and start to recuperate.

I won;t be around here for a while. I am slammed, have two test engines to build, and a 993 to finish. If you need us, call or email Jud at 706.219.4874 X627
or Jud@rabyenginedevelopment.com

Yep, have power... But no internet. The office is trying to run tethered to iPhones, but the data connection is also hurting since so many cell towers are still down.

So.... Your emails may see a slow response over the next few days.
