Silly thread, but i'll play...
I have Apple Carplay in my 996TT, so the phone is usually plugged in. I took an old CD holder, removed the inner CD portion, attached a piece of aluminum L, hot-glued some high strength neodymium magnets on the L bracket, and put a piece of hobby shop leather over the front. Like many of my projects, first one was a prototype, but worked well enough that never felt a need for V2. Color difference between factory leather and plastic is much less when not being lit up by a phone flash, looks very close.
Phone now just magnetically sticks, holds tight, typically runs Waze while the carplay unit is streaming apple music.

The last time I looked for a place to keep my iDevice in my previous 996, I made things a bit more complicated.... Of course this was before CarPlay, so I simplified on my later installation.
