Default West Coast Gathering 2018

Porsche has announced that the sixth Rennsport Reunion will be held at Laguna Seca and will be held September 27-30, 2018.

This is a Thursday - Sunday. Roughly 1,300 Porsches were there at the last one.

Why don't we tag a West Coast Gathering on to that, Maybe arrive the Tuesday before? We could even pick someplace to meet on Tuesday and drive as a group to Monterrey? There should be a lot of 968 owners that will want to come for this.

It will be a huge event so we'll want to make a quick decision and start booking a hotel.

Thoughts?

I think anyone and everyone who owns a 968 should come hang out, even if you have to drive a rental car

Rennsport is amazing and would be more fun to see it with other 968 owners.

Count me in. And uscarrera can come early and stay with me. Might even have a spare car for him to drive. He can share the NPR experience with me.
My idea is we start around HMB or Santa Cruz for roads, less expensive accommodations and expand the venue experience.
BTW, there were only 5 968s at Werks today. 2 in the judging and 3 in casual display. Add the ARTCAR on the access road cuz I knew where to park.
There were twice as many Speedsters, 914-6s, etc.

There are some hotels in Santa Cruz under $200 night and in Watsonville in the same range. Looks like most of the hotels are already adjusting their rates for the event. A lot of hotels don't book that far out so I couldn't see the rates. Last Rennsport I booked a room and the hotel called me later to advise the rate was higher, take it or leave it. I like FLT951 suggestion that we could meet a little further north, maybe around Half Moon Bay, for a couple days of hanging out and driving around, then drive down toward Monterrey for RR. Maybe stay in Watsonville, a 45 min drive to the track where rates will be a little better than in Monterrey. Those that don't want to stay through the weekend could depart sooner.

No question, the rooms will be pricier for the weekend. But, you'd get two great events for the price of one!

I have brought my rv to the last 2 rennsports at laguna and reserved a spot overlooking the corkscrew. There's nothing like having breakfast with your own private view of 962's and 917's thundering down the back! I talked to laguna and they should start taking bookings late oct 17 for rennsport. There is hundreds of different sites from tent camping out of your 968 or bring your RV if you don't have one rent one it's a blast being right there with 1,000's of Porsche's

After a lot of discussion and thought, here are the details for this year's West Coast Gathering. I hope many of you can join us!

2018 968 West Coast Gathering June 29-July 2, 2018

There will be a gathering of 968 owners this summer in Sonora, CA, June 29th to July 2nd.

Sonora is located on historic CA Highway 49, at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains!

Think Winding Mountain Roads!

In the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills, in the heart of California’s “Gold Country” lies Sonora, named after the miners from Sonora Mexico who settled the City in 1848. Known as the “Queen of the Southern Mines”, Sonora still holds onto its historic downtown charm while thriving as the commercial, government and cultural center for the region.

This should be a great base for scenic drives, social time with fellow 968’ers and exploring the local region!

For those who made the 968 Gathering in S. Lake Tahoe, this is a little southwest of that and we will have an opportunity to enjoy some of the same styles of roads and scenery! Stops are being planned at several nearby historical venues.

The base hotel is the Sonora Inn http://www.thesonorainn.com/ with discount rates of between $135-$145 per night; depending on room type. There are other higher-priced hotels/inns/B&B's and some lower-priced lodging to suit all pocketbooks and tastes. One caution, there are no first floor rooms at the hotel and the elevator is under repair and may not be operational. If this is a concern, they have an adjacent property with first floor rooms that you can book.

Make your reservations no later than May 29th to check-in on Friday, June 29rd and check-out on Monday, July 2nd
The block of rooms will be released after May 29th.

Ask for the “Porsche Club 968” special rates. Reservations should be direct to the hotel at 209-532-2400

For more details and to let us know you are coming, contact us at oy-koh@comcast.net

I'm in if you can assure me car #1 status and a special t-shirt declaring that status.
