991.2 TTS exhaust sound improves over time?
The one thing that I wasn't initially impressed by was the exhaust note in my new 991.2 Turbo S.
I've now done 3000 miles and I'm not sure if it's just my imagination but the exhaust note seems to have improved and sounds way better than it did when the car was new.
Any thoughts as to why?
p.s. I'm definitely not looking for an aftermarket now!

Or... now now that the car's broken in and you are driving with more vivacissimo it just sounds better.
Either way, bonus to you!!

Haven't heard this from anyone but it is possibly a number of small reasons like Gunner said. Plus there are lots of chambers in the factory exhaust that can "pack-in" and the sound will change slightly. There are some awesome aftermarket set ups that sound great. Something for everyone!

I'm with fellow Canuck Mr 1Gunner. I think it is related to the right foot going down a bit faster and further after a few thou on the clock. It is also a lot more fun to drive that way. I had been away from my .2 TTS Cab for 15 days, out at my summer home in BC. All I have to drive out there is the wife's old 2004 MX-5 (which is fun in its own simple way) and my Chevy 2500HD. I just got back into 911 today. I had great-big fun, and I did have some folks look over at me with a slight scowl on their face, I really was not going too fast, so maybe it was my exhaust note that bugged them.

Not sure on the sound changing over time but I find the sound just ok below 4K and really like it above there at wide throttle positions... problem is how to do that without causing trouble or the wrong kinds of attention.

Isn't this true for most car exhausts?
Something, I think, about the pipes seasoning in with repeated heat cycles.

Well while I don't really know the why I can say that I have exactly the same observation about mine. I only have about 1100 miles on it but I have noticed it's a bit louder and now consistently makes some throaty deep burbles when I lift off the throttle that it didn't make when brand new. I was sort of unimpressed initially - but my mind is changing of late and I rather like the exhaust sounds now.

In our experience, exhausts do break in after about 2000 miles of use. We believe the carbon build-up on the inside of the pipes and chambers change the density of the system and thus the tone changes slightly.
