Seriously, I hope you are OK (underwear aside) and there is no other damage. Looks like the boot was torn, maybe dirt got in??

Unfortunate, but I feel really lucky, this could've been real bad, 6 miles earlier I was on the interstate.
I had noticed some Orange dust on the rim a few days ago but thought it was brake dust.
luckily this happened while at idle speed covering the brake.

Swap to steel joints and their eccentrics as soon as you can when you do the repair.

Glad you weren't hurt Ferris...and it doesn't look like much damage otherwise.

yeah, it's steel, . I have to admit that I knew before hand the uppers and lowers were going to be replaced soon.
It was squeaking pretty bad, and steering was feeling tight.
wifey took the tow bill receipt to the insurance office today and they cut her a reimbursement check on the spot.
I straightened out the fender and put on a used ball joint for temporary service untill I can order a new upper rebuild kit and two new lowers.
took it for a test drive, I guessed with the eccentric washers, but it seems to ride pretty good.
