It seemed to me every time I see a newer 911 I think it looks more and more like a 928, I have the same thought when I see the back of the new Panamera
The windscreen rake seems to now match the 928 and when you look at the dimensions I can now see why I think this if you look at the numbers below (all in mm)
They have changed the dimensions to basically the same as the 928. It's a observation that helps explain the changing attitude to the 928 as well as questions common thoughts about the 928 being clumbersom and heavy compared to the 911 which basically weighs the same now as a 928

The "911," like a lot of contemporary cars, is a bigger, heavier and more luxurious car than what was standard. The old 964s seem pretty rickety from the inside. Some see that as "light and sporty" but new 911s are much more solid and comfortable.
^^Many of the modern 991's are actually a little lighter than most 928's:
Curb weight(s)
1,435 kg (3,164 lb) (Carrera)
1,430 kg (3,150 lb) (GT3)
1,420 kg (3,130 lb) (GT3 RS)
1,485 kg (3,274 lb) (GTS)
1,495 kg (3,296 lb) (Carrera S)
Picked up a MY15 GTS Cab WB last year and it feels pretty nimble T
Three years ago I had my wife draw up plans for my shop. Asked her to make sure the 928 could be lifted all the way up on a 2 post lift and also wanted her to model it to show me how much room I would have overall. She used Revit to draw up the plans, and when she showed me the car on the lift, I said Wrong, as it was a 991. She informed me that the 928 was unavaible in the drawing program and her research showed the 991 was within an inch or two here and there. After 25 years I should have known better than to question her!

Here's the full list from Wiki
1,435 kg (3,164 lb) (Carrera)
1,605 kg (3,538 lb) (Turbo)
1,430 kg (3,150 lb) (GT3)
1,420 kg (3,130 lb) (GT3 RS)
1,485 kg (3,274 lb) (GTS)
1,539 kg (3,393 lb) (Carrera 4S)
1,696 kg (3,739 lb) (Turbo S Cabriolet)
1,646 kg (3,629 lb) (Targa 4S)
1,627 kg (3,587 lb) (Turbo S)
1,495 kg (3,296 lb) (Carrera S)
1,554 kg (3,426 lb) (Carrera S Cabriolet)
So some are under some are over compared to the 928 but its fairly close when you consider a 930 Turbo is 1379kg and that's the heaviest.
Although the concept is supposed to be different - smaller/sport vs larger/gt the small/sports has morphed into the clean sheet thinking of the 70's
It the 928 was still on sale and have been developed it might have become a different car to the one we love today and we would be debating other 928 topics between generations ?

^^Did not include 991 TT/TTS, Cabs, and 4WD versions for obvious reasons. T
But, yeah, 30 years ago you had the entry level 924, the sports car 911, and the GT 928. Now you've got the entry level Boxster, the sports car Cayman, and the GT 911. And the weights and measures are startlingly similar.
Here's the pic of the 928 with the 911 behind. Notice the identical rear roof lines:

"pretty nimble" is a gross understatement. Your GTS eats almost anything out there for lunch. I drove one at Sears Point and it is spectacular. Porsche really has been improving the car year after year to keep up with the best. I wish they did it with the 928.
