The car looks great Brian, I see you found some Pirelli's, very cool. Where's the car show?

Thank you. She'll really pop once I do some hand compound rubbing and get some wax on her. I've done nothing to her outside since she arrive (but wash her twice), since you had the outside looking good to begin with.

You found those tires first Josh.

They are the Pirelli's that came with old red...on the platinum seven slots.

Brian.

Well, after waiting in the Secretary of State (DMV) for an hour and a half...note to self...never, ever go to the SOS the Friday before Labor day weekend, since all public employees are off that day and they will go there, too. Anyhow, paid my $8.00 for plate transfer (yes, the old Chrsyler van bit the dust...298,744 miles...damn American made vehicles anyway) and old red is now street legal.

Took her to the A&W yesterday evening, Lori (wife) wanted to know if we were staying in the car or going inside...after nearly 4K in interior restoration...what do you think...lol.

Now, I've never really been a red car type of guy, trucks yes, cars no, but when we walked out of that A&W and old red was sitting there amongst that pile of black, silver and white vehicles...she looked like a diamond in a coal mine. Reminded me of those photos you see, where they intentionally black and white out everything around the main subject.

Sorry, no pictures. Forgot to take the Samsung tablet...yes, we have no fancy cell phone. Can you imagine...someone traveling in a 928 without a cell phone or credit card in their pocket...lol.

Anyhow, the old girl ran great and yes...we stopped in an abandoned parking lot prior to A&W...no, not for that...to check for leaks or any other issues.

Brilliant thread! I appreciate the Upholstery angle as right next door to me is a top trim shop in all of Southern Texas, they do excellent work, and, by nature I've observed a lot of their work over the years and learned a lot too. If anyone has trashed Door panels, no worries, as long as you have whatever is left, they can make brand new from scratch Panels that are as good, and better than what Porsche put out, really! When I read that you put 30 hrs of hard hand labor into your exhaust and underbelly pans I was like "Send that stuff out to the Media Blaster"! I just did all my components myself internally in my shop drblast.com and there is no way I'd spend 30 hrs doing that what you did! LOL!

When you said you're going to retire, retire from what? Military? I am retired Army, did 21 yrs all active duty! So, when you do retire you'll have more time to engage in this sort of work...or so I thought myself about my plans. But, I got busy on my Media Blasting business and it has grown steadily over the years. BTW, I'm fixxin' to Plastic Media Blast my Valve Covers and Intake, and also all my forged suspension parts will benefit from this too very soon.

Your car project is awesome, as is this thread!

Default Thank you, Donald and Haroldo

Went to a car show last weekend. Had a great time, even though old red only had one car of similiar genetics, 914. Which didn't surprise us, as this is traditionally a custom/muscle car type event (with approximately 2300 cars 1978 or older, second largest in MI). Regardless, we enjoyed visiting with other "car folks" and received enough attention to jusify going.

Yes, we heard the..."isn't this car to modern to participate", "it's the Porsche version of the Pacer", "it's a solar type car".

However, for those three negative comments...there were hundreds of accolades of the opposite opinion. And most shared interesting stories of their ownership or being their dream car.

Default After what feels like falling off the face of the earth...

My days of working 11 hours a day are over.

So, spent some well deserved time with old red. Removed rear rubber bumper cover to do some cleaning. Takes about an hour to get it off, when everything goes smoothly...and it did.

Now this, below, ticked me off some. After hand removing all of the paint and rust from the exhaust last year with a wire wheel and painting it with the best exhaust paint l could find...it pealed...after about two hours of total driving time.

Off it comes...again. lf it wasn't going to the event in PA, it would just stay that way until I retire and totally disassemble the car.

I painted the exhaust on my 911 about 8 years ago and still looking great. Used POR-15 degreaser followed by their metal etch then rattle can high temp engine paint in white.
