Several years ago, I lifted the cover over the spare tire in my MGC GT, which was parked in my garage, and a mouse ran out. It was busy building a nest using bits of the carpet and insulation.

My brother(mastertech in SC) just had a pristine 981 totaled, due to rat damage. Car is less then three yrs old, only driven 6000 miles, parked in climate controlled garage on Kiawah island in second home so not driven for many months at a time.

Well...997's I can understand. No self-respecting rodent would lower him/herself to naw on a lowly 996. Us poor folks are safe.

Actually, I have a 300ZX that sits outside mostly undriven especially since I bought my 911 and mice do like it. Built a nest around the starter motor and have been eating the undercoating off the frame. No wiring damage noted as of yet. I did the moth cakes and sprinkle cayenne pepper under the hood and around the car last fall. So...maybe they do inhabit cheaper cars, too.

I had quite a few acorns, a bunch of fur and assorted droppings on top of my engine when I took it apart. I think it was from last summer when the car was sitting out in my driveway for a few months. Fortunately, there was no wiring harness damage (and I did check carefully). I'm definitely going to place a few strategic moth ***** in the engine bay this summer...

I've read the dryer sheet thing is an urban myth. I get the moth "cakes" that advertise "no lasting odor when removed". It is true within about 10 minutes of removing with frunk left open; smell gone.
