Had the same problem. Noodled the small hose of some WD40 and sprayed the locking mechanism. After gently giving it CPR Porsche style, the hood released itself. Happened to be gummed up from sitting up so long.

Wd-40, pushed , pulled so bummed right now. Nothing is working. Did the locks back and forth etc... i think im gonna drop the exhaust. I just hate.... hate the idea of paying a dealership for something so dumb.

Put some painters tape on and underneath the left tail light and bumper. Place some type of small plastic wedge between the tail light and the bumper to create a gap. Use a hook (coat hangar?) and fish the emergency release cable out from under the light. Pull it and the engine lid should unlatch and open.

The main cable came undone from it's little groove/mount that it sits in, so the cable had no tension to pull.
Funny thing is, now my engine lid won't latch. It looks like the eccentric of the latch is worn to where it doesn't grab easily unless you physically facilitate the engagement with your hands. Which is impossible unless the lid is open. Ordered a used latch that is hopefully less worn than mine
