Is there just that much of a lack of inventory in the market? It seems like 997 pricing is creeping up to where used 991 pricing was last year! In fact, I know I saw at least a couple of loaded 991 C2S Aerokit cups in the mid 70's last fall, both with under 15k miles!
This car, 2011 C2S 6MT, enthusiast build with Aerokit cup, 14k miles, asking $71,400!
Yikes. I could see mid 60's perhaps, but over $70,000? When I was shopping for a 997 a year ago, I was seeing well equipped cars with 25-30k miles in the mid 50's from dealers. Talking C2S, C4S. Everything is $5k higher now, at least.
I suppose the moral of the story is: don't buy a 997.2 manual right now unless you have money to burn. If the stock market corrects, these cars could drop in a hurry. I don't recall seeing a run-up in pricing on 911's like this before. Sure, the 997.2 was not built in huge numbers, but they are out there.
997.2 manuals are the last of the NA 911s that still feel like true 911s (not the bloated , big grand tourers that are the 991 Carreras)
997.2 carrera S and GTS in manual are already ceasing to depreciate and will shortly be appreciating.
If you want a manual 911 that still feels like a 911, but has modern infotainment and doesn't cost the ridiculous amounts people want for air cooled 911s, then a manual 997.2 is clearly the way to go.

To a point. If it is just about driving and not collecting, there will be consideration for the 997.1. If one can buy a 997.1 for low 30s and have a 4.0 build for 25k, for a driver, that might look more attractive than buying into the inflated 997.2 MT prices that a cult following brings.

The challenge with a build like that is that you can't finance it. My bet is that a lot of the higher dollar cars are selling because people can find cheap financing that almost asks the question, “why not?” Especially on a 6MT S or GTS where driving it won't hurt the value too much.
Its still summer. Wait until winter. All these inflated prices are because dealerships know that Porsches are hot when the weather is. That's my plan right now, its just a waiting game. Appreciate? Maybe, stay the same during this time of year, surely. Go back down in the fall/winter? Definitely.
I paid $53K for mine with 26K on the clock back in 2012... had a bad CarFax "hit a wild animal".
It is simply supply and demand..... maybe some poser vs enthusiast dynamic also.
1. 2009 (since I am familiar with that year) was a low for Porsche production due to the recession... production around these years were all low...... = tight supply
2. The economy has recovered.... = Higher demand........ No, not recovering, recovered. 3. Enthusiasts want manual transmissions.... posers just want to be seen in a sparkly new Porsche... New market is mostly sold to posers, used go to the enthusiasts..... (I have no data to support this, just my gut instinct)

U.S. added 138,000 jobs in May as jobless rate falls to 4.3%

WASHINGTON—The unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in 16 years in May, a fresh sign the slow and long-running U.S. economic expansion has entered a new stage, with businesses straining to adapt to tight labor markets. The jobless rate fell to 4.3%, the lowest reading since May 2001, the Labor Department said Friday. The rate was lower than any point in the previous economic expansion, from 2001 to 2007. Employers added a seasonally adjusted 138,000 jobs from the prior month.
After a robust start to the year, job creation has cooled, averaging 121,000 over the past three months. That is about two-thirds of the growth rate recorded last year. The slowdown could be an indication that many businesses are facing intensifying pressures from labor shortages. Some are adding workers more slowly, while others are adjusting pay scales or accepting higher turnover.

This is my plan as well. Hoping to buy a 997.1 C2S next winter. Really hope the prices creep back down a bit like I'm anticipating.
had a PZ dealer offer me €47... for my .1 S X51, 2008, 35kkm, 4 months ago...actually quite surprised...no idea where this is going, what it means...think i'll just keep an' drive 'er...smiley face goes here...

I bought my GTS in Jan of 2015. got a great price considering it was winter.
I doubt it's stopped depreciating but hard for me to argue anecdotally. I can't believe c2s even with options would go for that 71k.
Though, I've been seriously offered more than I paid for mine a couple times.
Another data point: a Porsche dealer in Colorado just sold a GTS4 manual the same day it was listed: 12k miles, rather bland $118k build (no sport seats, no SC, no upgraded suspension or LSD), in Midnight Blue, for $83,900. It wasn't certified either. That is a nice car but I would estimate it would have sold for mid-70's a few months back.
It will be interesting to see what pricing does this winter. I may look to buy a car mid-winter and flip it come summertime, if this keeps up!

I bought my GTS in Jan 15 as well coming off a lease. In retrospect, that was a sweet spot! Glad we jumped when we did.
