Default 0-60 Times - Does your 997 live up...

Does your 997 live up to expected 0-60 acceleration time? I have 2006 C2S, and supposedly I should be able to reach 60mph in about 4.5 seconds. Now, granted, my 997 has a manual transmission, and I probably suck at driving... best I can do is in the low 6's. Has anyone else been able to get 4.5s with a stock set-up? Thanks!

I'm no magazine car review writer, but my perception is that acceleration times quoted often have a small roll-out. Not only that but I think this is more of a high rpm clutch dump in order to get that. Probably moreso than what you or I would do to our own car.

would be interested to see some vmax results from owners!

See if you can find specs for 5-60 or, like C&D used to do, top-gear acceleration tests, or 50-70mph in 2nd gear, or 60-100, etc. Takes shifting and reaction time (driver) out of the equation and relies on the car more or less.

Turn the traction control off and drop the clutch at somewhere in the neighborhood of 4500-5000 RPMs. Spin the wheels. You should be able to come close to the 4.5 sec mark. If you are not doing that, you are bogging down the engine and not getting max torque and losing a second or more at the start.

A lot of the times on testing they are not using the clutch in the first to second shift, just wrenching it out of gear and jamming it in second with a slight lift so not to lose any time

Maybe not what you want to be doing with your own car......

^did that some when raced motor cycles but in my youthful drag strip car days you would kick the clutch and slam the shifter without taking your foot off the gas. Done with conviction and quickly it worked very well. Not so good for the syncros but never busted a transmission or threw a rod.

All of which makes me appreciate my PDK. Every shift is a speed shift. I have not timed mine but it's quick. Happy.

Get an app for your phone. Lots to choose from that do it. Or buy a HD video camera with built in G meter.

Hi, you need around 4k launch for good 0-60 very fast gear change and take it to the red line. For a real quick 0-60 6,500 revs at launch put a bit of pressure on gear leaver as it hits rev limiter it will almost fall out of gear blip clutch as this happens slide into second at half throttle and back to red line in second you will get 0-60 in 4.3 on a good road, you need warm tyres and a dust free road, and you'll wreck your clutch in 2,000 miles as I have done.
