968s had an ignition module internal to the DME which eliminated the external igniter featured on the S/S2 944s. Not saying the code is erroneous but it doesn't match up with the equipment on a 968.
Duramertic gave me this code, also these docs are have are from 1991, didnt the DME go through 3 changes and maybe there are extra codes not on my docs? I know in the set of docs I have, there are two sets of wiring diagrams for early and later cars.
I have a 1993 car, so I assume one of the later 2.
This code is stored if there is a short to B+ or Ground at the Output Amplifier Stage (Bank 1). Generally this code occurs with other defects. Causes may be a faulty Idle Speed Actuator, Injector Valves, Ignition Coil on Plug, Oxygen Sensor Heating Relay, Fuel Evaporation, Control Valve, Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and/or EKP Relay. Delete the code after examining for other faults. If the code recurs, delete code, then disconnect the DME for a minimum of 5 minutes to initiate a reset. Rerun car. If code recurs and no other defects are found the DME is most likely damaged and must be replaced. If the code does not recur and the engine runs properly, ignore.
Can you describe the exact issue that you are having with the car?
We don't trust the codes in these older cars as much as we do in post 1966 vehicles.
Perhaps with a descriptions of the issues we can assist.
Car has some stumbling issues when you let off the accelerator, decelerate and try to accelerate. Not always consistent. You pedal stops responding and car feels bogged down, But it can sometimes feel like someone is tapping the brake as you accelerate and my head snaps forward. Seems to happen once the car warms up. Is fine when cold.
I don't see a listing for that code either; Though test point 31 (on page 24/28) as described in the manual seems to walk through diagnosing the ignition system portion. It may be worth ensuring those items ohm out to spec.
Note the orientation on the knock sensors prior to removal. It's common to replace the bolt also.
You might find some new power if the oil temp sensor in the head is going south. The DME changes how the vario cam actuates dependent on the oil temp sensor. (It would be nice to tap into that reading)
