Default 86.5 Water Pump Question

Hi. Is there an easy way to get this bearing collar off of the water pump without damaging it, or am I going to have to take this in somewhere? I've tried to text search it, but have came up empty.

Put a bolt of proper size in the hole and use a bearing puller tool. Be easy.

I wasn't able to get a bearing puller behind the sleeve and ended up using a bit of heat and vice grips to get it off. Vice grip marks buffed right out.

Are you going to reuse that rebuilt pump?

No. That is the old pump I took off. It is almost two years old now. I just want to get the collar off safely.

I would have thought the teeth from the vise grips would dig in way too deep into the metal to get the bearing back on next time? Does it come off that easy? Also, what did you heat? The collar, or the pump spindle?

Thanks in advance

Looking back at my TB/WP thread I didn't even heat it, just put the pump in a vice and pulled it off with the vice grips. Just file down any proud marks the grips make, it'll be ugly but this sleeve isn't a sealing or rolling surface so it'll be fine.

FYI here's my thread on the same job and the much better one from Scott Yoo that are both S3 specific with lots of pictures.
