My budget is less than $40k. Therefore looking for preowned. I don't want to spend much at all on a kid transporter. My money went to my 911 and in a few years, I'll be trading it in for the future 992 Turbo (S) Cab - my dream car.

I would suggest maybe a CPO Audi S4. B8 Generation. You can find these in stick if you want to row your own. Pretty snappy little car. The 2012's still have hydraulic steering, I was never a fan of the electric steering on the S4 on the 13 and newer cars.
If you are looking at an S6 maybe look at a CPO Audi S8. The seats are amazing, super luxurious, 520hp. If you chip it, with race gas you're running a 10 second quarter mile. Total sleeper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCPoZlugAgo

Back on topic - how about a Volvo station wagon. I suggest that because you may want to consider having a larger performance gap in between the 911 and your kid car. Might make for more exciting P car driving.
I have a 2.8L X3 as my daily. 4 cylinder turbo. Not fast. Great gas mileage. It makes the 911 feel that much more sporty and fast.

Me, I'd go for a 2018 Golf R, the one that is not in the US yet. Four doors, plus hatch, new for VW Golf 7-speed PDK/DSG. But, a CPO Audi A4/S4 may make more sense for you, particularly considering the need for a bit more storage area I think- all the stuff you have to bring with you for your kids. Good luck in your search, and let us know which car you finally get>

I was looking pre-owned. Anything cheap enough to be reasonable was a ragged pile of crap.

You should be able to find a nice CPO S4 with your budget. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

We just picked up a CPO Cayenne and love it.
