Default Oxygen sensor connector

Replacing the single oxygen sensor on my 95.

Moved the plastic cover from the rear of the passenger side engine compartment, and I can see where it connects to the red connector.

Old sensor - 1 black wire and 3 white wires connected to red connector

The oxygen sensor has a couple of prongs but they don't really appear to do anything.

New sensor connector

Does it just pull straight out of the red connector? Kind of hard to get my hands in there since it looks like you might have to move an A/C hose to pull it all the way out.

Thanks all...

The little slanted ramp on the top of the plug you picture looks to be a catch. If so you need to push it down and then it should pull straight out. All plugs on our cars tend to have some sort of catch.

Thanks.
There is a catch on the top and on the bottom of the plug.
It looks like a catch and moves a little, but as far as I can see neither catch is long enough to reach the red connector.

It was getting late so I gave up last night. Maybe later I'll try to finagle the black plastic cover out of the way so I can get two hands in there.

If I remember correctly, the red part of the plug on the cars harness side slides sideways, releasing the o2 plug.

Plug new one in, slide back in to lock.

Thanks INTMD8, red part does slide out sideways from its holder in the plastic box but the plugs still need to come apart.

When you plug in the new sensor, make sure it is oriented correctly....

There should be two copper contacts and two silver contacts inside the connectors on both plugs. This should be easy to see if you look closely. Match up those contacts and you can't go wrong.

I expect to be near the car tomorrow for a little while so I'm going to see if I can get the pieces apart then.

Thanks for the support.

I'm not sure you're understanding. I'm not saying the entire connector sliding out of it's holder on the chassis of the car, I'm saying the red plastic part of the connector slides sideways out of the connector body itself.

Not sure what term to use to describe it but slots in the red plastic part are ramped and cam out on the circular buttons on the end of the o2 side plastic plug either pulling it into the connector (pushed in) or pushing it out (pulled out).

Couldn't get back to the oxygen connector last week - took advantage of the recent blizzard and headed off to Quebec to ski with my son.

Back on topic, it seems crazy that Bosch put those pseudo clips on the top and bottom when it appears that the cylindrical parts on top of the black body hold it in. Once I slid the red part off to the side the connector came out with no effort.

Here it is in the open position:

And in the closed position:

I did have to remove a bolt from one of the heat shields to get the connector to pass through, but now it's done and ready for the next project:
