Most people like the 3s and many swap them in if their car has a 4. Personally I think the 4 looks better.
I grew up driving a 1983 GTI with a fatty four spoke wheel. So I too prefer the four.

The 3 has just always looked bulky and unbalanced to me. Just a taste thing.

I think the silver crest came on the 2000 models only to celebrate the 50th (silver) anniversary of Porsche. Mine has the silver and I think the colored one would look better (I'm not changing it though)

Regarding 3 spoke versus 4, it's personal preference, but I strongly prefer the 3. My first 996 had the 4-spoke and I really hated the look of that wheel.

TWO people here have the RARE and HIGHLY sought after silver steering wheel crest???? I'm going out and buying a lottery ticket, this must be some sort of sign.

Maybe that $75K 996 in the other thread has one too, which explains his asking price.

You sure about that? The 50th anniversary of the Porsche company would have been 1981. Maybe you're thinking about the anniversary of the 911? But that would still be wrong because that happened in 2013.

I told you the silver horn crest is as rare and mysterious as sasquatch!!!

My MY-00 also came with the silver crest on the 3-spoke steering wheel but no leather cover though. I do wish I had that leather option to complement the full interior package :-) Cheers,

I have a year 2000 and mine also has the silver crest. It was my understanding that silver was used instead of gold for the year 2000 cars...I might be incorrect...

I'm feeling cheated with my lousy colored one.

What I meant to say was that it was used to celebrate the 19th year after the 50th anniversary of Porsche and also to celebrate the fact that it would only be 13 short years until the 50th anniversary of the 911.

See, it all makes sense!!!!

Sorry, had that confused regarding the anniversary, it was actually silver to recognize the millennium. I'm not joking about that -- I did read that somewhere (and, as we've seen, I'm never wrong ).

I have a 2001 911, can the 3-spoke steering wheel from a 2001 Boxster fit? Is it a direct swap? Can I put the 4 spoke 996 steering wheel in the boxster and the 3-spoke from the boxster back in the 911?

Is there any coding required?
