Sport Suspension/ Red Boges
Question for the collective.
My 86.5 was born with the sport suspension option.
Which my understanding is: stiffer factory springs and red Boges.
I took the reds off two years ago, they were pretty tired.
I have had black stock Boges on since.....meh.
I won't say they suck, just too soft.
I would like to get back to the factory sport option feel.
My assumption is you cannot rebuild a Boge shock, correct?
Also, after looking around, I've never seen new Boge reds for sale? Are they in production?
How close are the red Koni's?
I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger budget wise, but looking to get my ducks in a row...
Regards.

I thought Bilsteins were the sport suspension option...or was that a different year?

I think at one point Bilsteins were used as the sport option, I want to say earlier in the production run, but not S3 MY's? One of the experts can correct me.
Stan, I hadn't asked Roger, that's good to know.
Roger, if you are watching this channel, what is the cost for Boge reds pray tell?
Here's a random question (and my prediction is that Rob will know this): what is the number of 86.5's with manual/LSD/sport suspension?

Koni's set on medium are going to give you a very close feeling to the Boge sport feeling with the ability to adjust them. Those are my choice.

928s to best of my knowledge only ever used one spring rate for all US cars. There are different "tolerance groups" that were designated by color markings on the coils to match up from side to side, but the spring rate was nominally the same.
So, "Sport Suspension" only meant different shocks like the Red Boges.

A little off topic but regarding red shocks:I have red boge on my 92 GTS , but part # is 928 333 051 16 for rears(never checked PN on fronts)...are those shocks the real red boges or just "painted red" boges?(my car has not M474 option from factory).
never seen other 928 gts around here, so I cannot ckeck...

That's interesting, I guess I should continue to take care of it...
Thanks Roger, I guess I will keep saving up. I should have just bought them the last time...

How do the Bilsteins compare to Boge Reds, in terms of performance and road feel?

Bilstiens can be rebuilt.........others?
I have Bilstiens on my S4......they perform great but somewhat harsh for everyday driving with Eibach springs.

You could also have the Bilsteins revalved, however with the non linear spring rate those springs have it would at best be a compromise.
