Default 2.7 Windage Ports

I'm a strong proponent of trying to keep information shared on this 944 forum accurate and there seems to be conflicting information on whether the 2.7 block has windage ports or not! For example:

If you read through the thread below, it shows that you've contradicted yourself multiple times, Thom, so your response is more than suspect.

I think it's going to take photos to convince me. The photo toward the end of the thread above shows a 104mm block with no windage ports. Can someone provide a photo of a M44.11 or M44.12 (2.7) block with a factory cast port? John, do you have an unmodified 2.7 block you can photograph?

Thanks.

My first hand experience with the 104mm blocks is that 2.7 and S2 blocks do not have windage ports, while 968's have. With that said, over the years I have kept reading from respectable posters such as fast951 and a few others that all 104mm blocks have windage ports. Therefore my bottom line would be that some 104mm block have windage ports while others do not. I imagine there is not one single person around who has ever checked if every single 104mm block had or had no windage ports as they "rolled" out of the production line.

I will gladly let anyone who has enough time to waste trying to convince you if there is the black or white bottom line to this topic that the arguably justifiable inquisitive tone of your post suggests, while for me there clearly is not, at least at this point.

We could speculate that the longer stroke of the S2/968 engines required windage ports, but as said I have seen several S2 blocks without them, so...

There is a thread where poster from Germany posted a copy of Porsche factory magazine "christophorus" No. 215/Nov. 1988, which explains why Porsche did add the "windows" in the block. However, it does not say whether Porsche added them also to 2.7l blocks, however, in they could do it if the 2.7 blocks were still produced at that time.

https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...-blocks-2.html

I added small windage ports when I did rebuild my 2.5l last winter as I try to run oil close to maximum level when on track. Probably should have made them 3 times bigger as the factory ones to have the full effect. In the worst case I removed some weight from the front of the car

The windage ports in my 89 2.7 block are in the casting. It's a bare block on a stand in my garage.

One of my 89 2.7 blocks out of an automatic chassis has cast or machined windage ports. I haven't opened up my other 2.7 block in my manual yet.

It seems that some 2.7l has the windage ports, while others do not.
Could it be based on production dates or ROW vs. US?

The 2.7l engines I had, are long gone. So can't post pictures nor block #.

Google a pic of an S2 block, the ports on mine look the same. No digi camera handy at the moment.

I have an '89 2.7L block on a stand now. It has the ports (with squirters added). Here's a picture:

And my current 3 liter motor uses an '89 2.7 block. It also has ports. Here's a picture of that:

And here is a picture of an old 968 block I ended up not using. It has the ports too and factory squirters. Here's a picture of that:
