My dad and I both have 993s - his is a cab and mine is a coupe. Just noticed hat he has velcro strips in his carpet and that my carpet doesn't have. What it's for? I'm sure it serves some function. Silly little question, but curious to know.
Probabaly someone added some Velcro strips with adhesive backed matching loop fasteners on the trunk interior to make the carpet lay neatly. If the Velcro is stitched in and the matching loop fasteners are present it was probabaly OE. If the strips are glued on the carpet they are likely aftermarket or a previous owner may have added them. Are your cars of the same model year?

Wow, very detailed instructions for a half-baked storage solution, very un-German. I wonder if it continued to work in the front end collision testing?
This is actually an extremely German solution. And any issue that it causes is an "operator error". Because, despite being an answer to a question nobody asked, it's described in writing, and, thus is gospel.
As a former engineer, especially having spent 4 years in a company where about a third of our product design was done in Japan and a 50% in Germany, and having to deal with the results... it's very frustrating.
