I am hoping someone with more knowledge can tune in here. I am looking to replace some 18" rims with something period correct that looks newer than the phone dials.
Era correct is: plus or minus two years from the date of manufacture. One inch larger in diameter or width than stock.
Does anyone know of a stock rim for any Porsche between 1985-1989 that would be 17" in diameter and fit on an 87 951?
I have googled and only found one car within those dates that had 17" rims, that being the 959.
The next best option I think is the 89 turbo s club sport wheels, but they are still 16". The plus is they are wider.

Based on your definition of era/period correct, you will not find a factory 17" wheel.
For '87+ 944/951, 7/8 x 16 cast phone dials were standard, with 7/8 x 16 forged 7-slots available as an option. As you mentioned, 7/9 x 16 forged Clubsports were standard on the '88/'89 Turbo S. Beginning in '89, 7/8 x 16 cast D90s were standard on the S2. Even in '92, 7/8 x 16 cast Cups were standard on the 968.
If not mistaken, after the '86/'87 959, the next 17" standard fitment was 7/9 x 17 cast Cup 1s on the '91 965. The 7.5/9 x 17 Cup 1 was standard on the 928 GTS in '93, and available as an option on the 968 in '92. When the 993 debuted in '95, standard fitment was 7/9 x 16 cast 993 Cups, with 7/9 x 17 cast Cup 2s offered as an option.
One of the Euro members would have to confirm/deny...suspect the 17" Cup 1 was offered as an option on the ROW '91 944 Turbo S.
Excellent, thanks for the reply. I have been searching for a set of turbo s club sport rims in the meantime, not many around. What is the usual going price for a set of those? What in your opinion would be way to much?
You are correct. I owned a -91 Turbo with 17" cup wheels from the factory. It also had the -91 964 turbo S steering wheel as option. These late cars were only available for sale in Germany in -91.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected, Peder. That turbo S wheel is similar to the 930 sport or 968 clubsport wheel, correct?
Yes Allen, it is the same in design as the 968 CS wheel but had "PORSCHE" lettering on the left lower side of the rim together with the embossed crest on the hornpad. Best looking/feeling Porsche steering wheel there is IMO.
Here check these out, no affiliation. I have a similar set. Mine are the 951 rear 16x9 and the 16x8 928 rim. And mine are black in the center with a polished lip. It's on my profile photos if you want to see how they could look. But these are cool. You can always machine out the flat faced 16x8 rims as well. There are some nice period correct wheels out there in the sizes you want and for not a lot of $ if you don't go for factory wheels. I have a set of these 80's era Oz Racing 3-piece forged 17in wheels on one of mine. Look great, always getting compliments.

Unfortunately for me, era correct is +/- two years from the year of my car (87). So anything newer than 89, won't work. I can however buy a new wheel that looks like something that was originally on the car. Still looking and seeing what options are out there.

Check out Kumho and Toyo. Both have the size you want. Atleast here in Europe.
Also on the 928 forum a member has à great thread were he makes 18" teledials! Supercool wheel on the 951!
You could get some fuchs replicas? or actual Fuchs...but the don't come in 17inch.
New actual (not replica) Fuchs are indeed available in 17in, 18in and 19in direct from Porsche. They are the new style in a late offset so should fit an 87. They do cost a few $$$'s though! <Fuchs>
