I will get the walls poured this week - temps are starting to drop for the slab assumed all was good if lowest daily temp is above freezing adjust mix and toss blankets.

How many days above freezing for the slab to cure properly.

Concrete under normal conditions gets to full strength in 28 days. In the construction world concrete test cylinders are collected to lab test the cylinders (break them) to confirm it reaches design strength. In 7 days the concrete will have reached about 65% of its full strength, at 14 days 90% at 28 days 99% and 56 days it would be max strength.

I'm not an engineer but if I were doing a new slab on grade, I would wait at least 14 days to start to really use the slab as a staging point for other work.

If you need the slab to reach a higher design strength sooner, you can choose to select a higher psi mix. For example if you need to schedule work where the strength of the concrete has to be at a minimum ( installing a lift) but your 3000psi mix won't be ready in time, go to a higher mix.

Call you concrete supplier if not mixing by hand and speak with their concrete mix design engineer, they can provide a good amount of knowledge if they are friendly.

Considering your work is now temperature dependent, do some quick research so you are familiar with the winter protection and curing methods you should use.

Im currently building 3 new out of the ground concrete superstructures in NYC and we are just beginning to plan our winter protection so we can continue to cast the concrete through the winter. As I noted in an earlier post, we will have to maintain minimum temperatures below the deck we are pouring, after the concrete is set and finished we will likely use thermal blankets to prevent the heat from escaping too quickly. Not trying to overwhelm or scare you but I know the effort that goes in to a project and hope this info helps you with yours.

It's an odd deal as we are going over a tennis court that has two layers of asphalt only a few years old.

I wanted to use forms that remain but the suppliers were out of stock too late in the season - never thought about that. If necessary we will cover . insulate and run heaters. Own Comm RE and self perform TI never poured before. Steel structure 10" walls think the engineer over designed but that's ok - much appreciated.

It is 50x30 with second floor that is 20wx49lx 8'3" ceiling height. 3 doors are 9wx8t, and one 9wx9t.

I left West coast in 1982 for east coast (education) and then proceeded and lived overseas for 14 years along with a hub out of Chicago for 15 years. So it will be great consolidate back where we came from CO/TX/AZ and get close to my family... Where did time go?!

Just sold my custom Chicago (city) home with 4.5 car garage and lost my a$$ and pre-sold my Vail home...
Bought homes in San Antonio and in Scottsdale.
Bought 54.4 acres in CO and will be the central home and 4,500 sq.ft. shop.
It will limit to 14 cars and 10 motorcycles. (Those that know me recall that I owned 40 cars at one time...)
I am following 14X20 recommendation from Mooty.

My 6" slab was poured mid spring, specified a burned finish too. Next day they showed up with a saw and scored it into squares. When they left I flooded the place and covered the slab with insulating blankets. Hosed the back every day and let the water drain across slab to the doors in front. 2" total pitch in 44 foot deep garage.
