At a "minimum" the TT needs improved brakes, sways and TPC-DSC ...

it needs suspension work on top of that to keep up with the lighter cars ...

GT3 / GT4 are the best track cars right out of the box ....

Factory Brakes with Pads/Rotors do just fine on a Turbo even at full weight when pushing BIG speed into braking zones. Sure, you can improve them like all things but its not needed.

GT cars cost more on initial price point it makes the Turbo a far more attractive option. Your talking a $30,000 difference in price which can be used to make substantial gains on a 997 Turbo.

The biggest problem we have had the 997 Turbo is the factory Turbochargers failing under hard use but with aftermarket turbochargers we see far better reliability.

At our Local Track Mid-Ohio 997 Cup cars usually run a low 1:27 (No Chicane) for Pole and 1:30 for Mid-Pack. Our Customers 997 Turbo runs a 1:30(no Chicane) or 1:32 (Chicane) with the Traction Control Enabled and his driver skill is not up to racing yet but he is improving every event!. The car would run a 1:25 properly driven and 1:27 with chicane. This 997 Turbo is a Full Interior Street car or 3500+lbs, with the following modifications.

Welded Coolant Pipes
Sharkwerks Coolant Pipes
Tial Alpha Xona Turbochargers
Protomotive Intake Pipes, Exhaust, Tune, Y-Pipe
Meth Injection (only above 9psi) usually a tank a DE day.
clutch
single mass flywheel
Moton Club Sport
Tarett Endlinks
Elephant Racing LCA
Factory Swaybars (Soon to be H&R)
Gyro Rotor 2Pc Rotors (slotted)
Hawk Black Pads
Forgeline GA1R Wheels
Pirelli Slicks
Werks 1 Front Splitter/Wing

Trip - thanks for all the replies. LSD, Clutch, DSC...all don't sound cheap! For that list, it looks like a $30-40K list...if I piece meal'd it, what priority order would you do? Suspension - doing full coilovers or could stiffer springs be a start?

NA - are you talking GT3s...or would you even think a 991 C4 or GTS would be better?

That's awesome, even sounds good too! I assume that's an aftermarket exhaust? Love the acceleration out of corners =)

Thanks, its a Tubi RACE exhaust (catless). Stock motor, turbos, and headers. Four point rollover protection, fixed backed race seats, and five point harnesses. Stock interior, steel AP racing rotors with Pagid RS 19 pads. That clip was taken the first day after switching from stock suspension to coil overs while seting up and testing. You really don't need to do a lot but spend time on the track and have the right people working with you. And most of all, just have FUN!

Lots of guys on here have much more experience --- but ... Since I just went thru the drill in the last year - this is what I would suggest;

1) track it stock ... you may not like it enough to go crazy on mods
2) Assuming you enjoy the DE days - then install short shift, TPC-DSC and race pads
3) if you are enjoying and plan to continue -- install coilovers / suspension parts & big brakes
4) After that install dedicated track seats, roll bar, harness & Hans (highly recommended)

Somewhere in there do a custom tune, exhaust and wheels/tires ....

Here is my list of improvements - in no specific order;

Custom Tune
RSR 4.0 Clutch /Light Wieght Flywheel
GT3-RS Coilovers
Champion Motorsport RF67 Wheels
Sport Cup 2's
Brembo Rotors/Pads
Porsche Short Shift
DAS Convertible Rollbar
Schroth Enduro Harness - Drivers and Passenger
TPC - DSC Box
Agency Power front Spoiler
GT3 Front Vent
GT2 Side Vent
GT2 Side Skirts
DCT Carbon Steering Wheel
Rennline Pedals
Guard LSD
Porsche Motorsports Straight Pipes
Sparco Track Seats w. slides
GT3 Shock arms
Lower Control Arms
GT2 Drive Pully
Water Pump
Steering Pump
Low temp Thermostat
GT 2 Rear Sway
H&R Front Sway
Coolant Pipe Pinned
GT3 RS Fork shafts
BBI - GT2 Clutch Slave

I have a 2008 2s and was thinking of upgrading to a 2008 tt. I have done a few HPDEs... Should be just as good but faster? Off topic a bit, but the 2008 is my daily driver, I assume a the TT can be the same?

Mods will change on your experience . Out of the box yes the TT will satisfy the occasional DE.
As you progress so will the mods just ask VID997.

Triplenet,
You may have provided the best advice so far!!! Crawl before walking is an excellent suggestion. Wither autocrossing, drag racing, tracking or top end runs...start small, learn and have fun. Buying a $10,000.00 set of golf clubs day one makes no "cents", so is true with racing.

It does not take long to find out how much one may need to spend in dollars and time to maintain a track ready car. If you're unable to do the routine maintenance yourself, that needs to be factored in to.

It's a blast!!!! and the OP should try it...but with eyes wide open.

Your car sounds awesome, but no pictures??? Pls share...JB

OP, do you own a TT already?
