Hey guys. I'm not as familiar with air-cooled as I am with water-cooled and was hoping someone could help me out with some info on this picture.
Is it possible to tell what MY (between 1965-1973) they are? Also, can anyone name the colors from left to right? Any other info anyone has on this pic would be great too.
Thanks!

Awesome picture!!! That would be really cool as a high definition oversized print. I know a few people (And some Porsche Dealerships) that would love to frame it and hand it on a wall for display!!!

I'd love to see someone recreate it. It might be my favorite Porsche picture.
They changed the tails out before the race. That picture must have been before delivery to the Penske shop.
Technically they were 74's, built on 73 chassis with updated bumpers, VIN tags were 74

The IROC series only use Porsches for one year. The story that has been passed down (and may even be true) is that Porsche sent Roger a bill for the cars.
In 1975 he used Camaros.
I have the dash sticker form the cars installed on my dash.
Joe Hoppen explained all of this to me at one time. Then I forgot the details. Here's the part I remember.
Joe had Porsche create these 911s for a US race series. About the time Porsche was completing the production run the series was cancelled.
Now Joe had a bunch of cars and no buyers. The Germans were not pleased.
At that point Joe talked Roger into creating the IROC series. Joe was off the hook. The Germans got some money and Roger was not pleased.
As with any racing story I'm not sure how much of this is, or was, true. The part where Joe created the IROC series may be a bit of a stretch. Who knows?
