Default Parking Brake Button replacement?

I know you can't get the button separately, but the question I'd like answered is:

Can the release button be removed from a parking brake handle, or is it part of a longer release rod? My button has been missing since I bought the car, but looking inside the handle, it does not appear to have broken off. More like it was pulled-out of the handle.

Any knowledge if that's how it's attached?

Thanks;

From what I could see it looks like it is just an insert. Also try this site in the UK it looks like they sell the piece alone. Otherwise you might be doing an Ebay special to get the button in the complete assembly.

UPDATE: The site in the UK wanted something like $23 US for the button and $25 for shipping to the US. Yeeesh!

So, I posted on our local PCA Chapter and a member suggested a certain parts recycler; gave him a call; would not sell just the button, but would sell me one heckuva ragged-out complete handle, with shipping, for $20. Got the handle, pulled out the button, and installed into mine. Slipped right in.

That's probably a good idea! I went about 4 months thinking I didn't have an owner's manual when I finally discovered that the passenger door also had the armrest flip-top. Yup; there was the manual, all supplements, and the cover/wallet.
