Default Toyo Proxes R888R availability extended to US

http://www.tyrepress.com/2016/10/toy...m_medium=email

The Proxes R888R road and track tyre, which was launched in the UK at the start of last year, is now available on the other side of The Pond. Toyo Tire U.S.A. has released the Proxes R888R as an evolution of its Proxes R888 and states the tyre will deliver “even faster lap times and better dry handling.” With a tread wear rating of 100 AA A, the Proxes R888R is available in the US in a full range of sizes to fit 13- up to 20-inch diameter wheels, with additional sizes to be released through summer 2017.

Toyo comments that racers and vehicle customisers in all segments “embraced the Proxes R888 for its versatility and longevity on the track, its broad range of fitments and overall good looks,” and opines that the Proxes R888R “takes it to the next level with its great looking new tread design and an improved contact patch that puts more rubber on the surface of the track.” This optimised contact patch is said to improve braking as well as acceleration and cornering in dry conditions. The Proxes R888R quickly reaches an ideal operating temperature due to its high grip race compound, the tyre maker adds.

“The Proxes R888R represents an evolution of the Proxes R888 in its design, technology and performance,” says Marc Sanzenbacher, senior manager at Toyo Tire U.S.A.’s Competition Performance Products division. “It provides dramatically increased levels of performance for use in numerous NASA and SCCA classes, as well as Time Attack and high-performance driving schools – all while maintaining a great appearance for car customisers.”

The Proxes R888 remains in the company’s competition line-up for racers “who are faced with both wet and dry conditions on race weekends.”

Should be the ultimate street/ track tire for those that drive on the street less than a few 1000 miles a year.
Like old Toyo R compount tires, i bet they are good til you see the cords too!
good stuff!

too bad they don't make anything bigger in 18", if you have a wheel bigger than 11" wide you are out of luck

I saw Ken Block announce this yesterday. That's what the Hoonicorn V2 runs. I'm interested in trying them out.

Very cool, finally a tire I want to put on my Europa. The Kumho Solus tires on it are new, but SO BAD as to be dangerous even at legal speeds, even in the dry (they WILL NOT STOP if going down a hill in damp conditions). The only thing good about the Kumhos is that they squeal a lot before they give up.

I have the old Toyo RA1 on my Viper (also only a street car) and they are great except when it's cold. They should last about 7000 hard street miles with a bit of drifting and autocross.

Going to tirerack.com thanks for the info!

Anyone from overseas have experience on these tires?

I'm hoping they are a happy medium between Nittos and Hoosiers (wishful thinking I know). I love the Nitto longevity but wish they were faster. I'd trade some life for speed.

They better be better than the old R888's, because on a 911, the old tires couldn't handle the rear weight bias.

Great price on the 225/50-15. I think I'll have to try a set next year.

How do you expect them to compare to Nitto NT-01?

Will be interesting to see what these are like. Toyo makes some very nice track tires, so hopefully these will be a nice addition/extension to the line. I can't help but think that they would have been wise to not include any 8's in the name though.

Curious for feedback as well as was planning on placing an order for two sets of RA1s this week.

OK, ran five sessions on these yesterday in my Miata. Full tread, heat cycled on Wednesday. 205-50/15.

Very much liked how they felt. Very similar to the feel of a shaved RA1 in good shape right off the bat. Nice feedback in sustained corners. Wear looks predictable for a full tread tire after five sessions driven by someone like me.

I think I can rotate these side to side based on the only markings being "outside" and no directional markings. That should greatly help even out the wear which I've always found was way worse on the left side tires running clockwise tracks predominantly.
