This is a whole lot of work. I am sending just about two of everything which probably is not helping matters. I blink and see bolts and washers. I am going with Burbank for yellow cad as true cad plating seems to be rather hard to find.
I have over 10lbs of bolts and washers. Likely over 100 clamps. Keep in mind that I am not bothering with brake and suspension items in this round. Just not prepared to disassemble the whole car at this point. I am also reluctant to send any vacuum diaphragms etc for fear that even capped, they may get damaged in the process.
I must also admit that I am growing a but paranoid and plan to insure the packages for big bucks. If they get lost, I lose just about everything needed to put my car and engine back together including some unobtanium.

I had the same paranoia about shipping insurance, but ran into the UPS limit for ground shipping. I didn't have the nerve to ask Burbank about their shipping practice - I think they deal with us small fry as a courtesy.
The first tanks they dip things into are for cleaning and stripping old coatings - aggressive stuff. I thoroughly degunked and degreased my parts, but no more - they came back looking good.
I spent a lot of time documenting my parts so I could re-sort them afterwards, even recording the markings on bolt heads. It was still difficult, and I wished I'd been even more thorough.

Burbank will generally not loose pieces. They have this figured out.

They quoted me 250, keep in mind that my 10lbs doesn't include coolant pipes, brackets pulleys and lines etc. So your previous assessment holds true. Prices all over the map

All packed up and shipping out today! I don't know that I would do this job again. I have three parts cars so I did send more of one part on a couple of items. This was a TON of work. I mean a TON. I didn't even delve into brakes and suspension. Just assembling the hardware, cleaning and prepping was work enough. Granted, I will have many extras when it's all said and done. 89lbs total including 35 lbs of bolts and hardware alone
Brackets, lines and pulleys
Bolts washers and clamps
Bolts washers and clamps

Burbank Plating 928 parts
Got 100 lbs package from UPS last night. Just under 10 days from when they received it, I have it back in my hand. Very happy with the service. Not cheap once all this was done but it looks fantastic.
My poor Trans Am now doubles as a workbench

I've been using BillMark Plating in Fort Worth for Cadmium plating for several years. Super nice guys that really only do small lots to help out car guys and the prices to us are reasonable. Their main business is government contracts and they run our lots in between and amongst their "money" business. Patience is a virtue but as long as you understand that going in.....2-3 weeks turnaround normally.
I realize this is a zinc plating thread, but cadmium is factory, lasts longer, and can be harder to find someone to do it.
No affiliation....just a happy previous customer

You folks that have a parts-car or two just sitting around are pretty lucky. In advance of my intake refresh several years ago now, Rob graciously shared a bucket of plated bits he'd harvested and plated. I looked at the newly plated bits, and at all the other hardware I had under the hood with original finish. Decided that replacing the intake-refresh hardware alone was going to create a significant contrast with my remaining preserved but original hardware in there. So went back with the original pieces.
This kind of plating can grow to be a serious obsession I think. "Slippery slope" is way too conservative terminology. You can't do the whole car is stages really, although I guess I could divide-and-conquer starting with engine bay, then wheelhouse area and front suspension, then rear suspension and remaining undercarriage bits.
There's a LOT of hardware to remove, clean, sort and catalog, plate, sort and catalog, reassemble. Maybe now that I have "winter" it will be more tempting. Maybe. I just need another garage bay to hold all the parts of the car that fall off when the bolts and nuts are removed, plus the one or two parts cars needed as hardware donors for the process. Picture me looking at candidate for-sale cars-- Paint looks shabby, interior shot, drive-line bits and suspension suitable for rebuild only. What am I looking at? How complete and original all the nuts and bolts are...

Dr. Bob,
You are SO correct: it is a slippery slope at the VERY least.
Any part that is newly plated will age with heat cycles and weather. That newly plated look just doesn't last on a driver car. On the flip side, you know that the part is protected, even if it doesn't look like for long.
