Default Radiator Fan Mounting

My radiator fan control unit is toast, so currently working to tidy things up for the new one.

In doing so, I checked the fan itself (which was held to the car with plastic wire), and noticed that the connector below is broken on both PS and DS.

Is that mounting piece a stock piece? I've trolled through the PET and couldn't find anything that seemed to indicate as such.

So stock part then?

If so, I'll poke around the PET a bit more...must just be missing it.

I thought the early models uo to 86 had mechanical fans or is that an auxiliary unit?

Clearly I am wrong or you have an aftermarket conversion so no parts in PET

Either way good luck with recovery.

Fred -
In looking at the PET for the '82, it does appear that the early models did use mechanical fans, and was presuming that the PO swapped it out for an electrical one.

But...was hoping that he just used the original mount points (which it does kinda look like) and I could just replace them.

Hi Ryan,
That is definitely the auxiliary fan. It's actually a pretty good fan There are two rubber cushioned bracket mounts on top, and a screw that come from below, accessible through a body plug. I wouldn't worry about the rubber being hardened, but if it is broken, there are a number of rubber isolators with metric studs or threaded inserts available. I've bought some on Amazon.
BTW I don't think you have a fan controller stock, just a series or temp sensors that can turn on that fan. With a supercharger (which I think you have) you probably want a good 16" pusher fan controlled by an after market box. I used Fantech fans, and have been very happy with them. I have had less than great experience with Spal and Zirgo in that location.
Also you can probably get that bracket with isolator used from 928 Int'l.
Good luck,
Dave

@Duc - thanks for the P/N/ Not sure how I missed it.
@Dave - thanks for the info as well. Good tip on the isolators from Amazon. I looked at Ace Hardware yesterday, and was ready to fabricate something using some large rubber grommets, so gracias.

Yes. I do have a supercharger (good memory). The PO did install a fan controller near the PS reservoir, and reviews on Amazon suggest that what I'm experiencing here is fairly common with my model. I've got a new one from a different manufacturer on the way.

And Jesus....I need to get the ozone machine back to you. Another bottle of Chard will be along with it.

Default Radiator Fan Bracket Screws

Anyone ever replace this bracket?

Is the screw(blue arrow) under the headlight rod bolted into the frame underneath?

is the screw underneath here bolted into the frame or into a PITA nut that can only be access by removing the front bumper?

Is this screw bolted into the frame or into a nut that is only accessible by removing the front bumper.

Does removing this screw, to remove the bracket, require removal of the front bumper to manually hold a nut in place while turning the bolt on or off?

I ask as I've gotten burned by the power steering fluid reservoir holder. The two bolts that hold the power steering fluid mounting bracket require you to remove the wheel liner to get at the nuts that secure those bolts onto the frame. I would have assumed those bolts screwed into groves in the frame or into a nut welded onto the other side of the frame so i'm asking/double checking here.

It's an M6x16 bolt that is held captive by a loose nut that you will have to counterhold underneath the cowl to tighten or remove.

You ought to be able to reach a hand through the grille with a 10 mm socket on a long 1/4" extension to loosen it.

Why do you want to remove the bracket?

Thanks for that specificity/detail.
I'll have a try tomorrow as I have the grille off currently.
I want to either clean, replace or yellow zinc the bracket to refresh it as it looks tired.
At a minimum i'd like to replace the bolts with yellow zinc ones.
