Default Removing cd storage

I want to pull it and add a cubby.

Is there a specific cubby or are they all the same?

I see them on eBay but they say 'lower cubby'

There is an upper and lower version. Check out suncoast.

The lower is closest to the center console carrier. The upper sits above it. My car had an XM unit in the upper slot, and I ordered from Suncoast. Perfect fit.

Also planning to do this. Thanks for the link.

FYI, removal of the CD tray is simple. Just pull it straight out. No screws, glue, or anything.

Highly recommend this mod; you won't miss the cd tray.

Frisbee91 - is that the case for all configurations? - i am having a heck of a time taking it out

so my layout is head unit on top, then the cd storage, then the temp unit, similar to the layout pictured in this thread

obviously, there is nothing to hold on to so i open the top drawer and pulled...nothing

top and bottom...nothing

thinking perhaps there is a locking mechanism, i opened all four...nothing

when i say nothing, i am pulling 1, both or all four drawers (from the side) and there is zero movement...so not even as if it were friction fit and moving a tiny bit but stuck - it feels as if something is engaged and i am not unlocking it

i know that differs from what you said...so i am stumped - is there some tip or trick i am missing

when i say i am pulling, i mean really pulling hard (would break anything flimsier)

help!

Strange. Mine pulled right out. Yours may be screwed in since it is moved up.

Mine was in the same spot on both my '99 and my '02. Both pulled right out. So easy, it wasn't even a one beer job to swap out the CD holder for the cubby. So easy, a caveman could do it.

Should pop right out. Pop out trays 2 and 3, grab securely, tug. If that fails, tug harder.

Yep, that will make it "pop out" alright if she does it long enough.

I thought the CD storage was useless and replace it with a Scan gauge II

You guys and your newfangled CD trays. My '01 996TT has a cassette tape holder, I kid you not.
