1979 Porsche 928
2016 The Auburn Auction
Offered Without Reserve
ESTIMATE: $15,000 - $ 25,000
CHASSIS NO: 9289200318
• Rare five-speed variant
• Tasteful upgrades for increased handling and performance
• Complete with tools, owner's manual and service manual set
273 cid, 219 HP, water-cooled 90 degree V-8, with aluminum block and heads, five-speed manual transmission; wheelbase: 98"
Introduced in 1978, the 928 was designed to be the ultimate Porsche. A break with tradition, a front-mounted, water-cooled V-8 broke new ground for the German sports car maker. The design proved so well conceived that it lasted virtually unchanged for 17 model years. The still-stunning shape turns heads and the unrivaled German engineering created a structure that feels like it is carved from a solid billet.
Owned for over 27 years by a Porsche enthusiast, this is a rare five-speed example of an early, light weight 928. It is exceptionally clean and uncluttered, with no unsightly body side molding to upset the amazingly smooth shape. The body and glass are in excellent condition and it sports new upholstery. All of the original hand tools are present in the rear compartment container, along with the original owner's manual and a complete, eight hardbound volume shop service and assembly manual set.
It was recently upgraded with late-model Porsche 928 S4 brakes, wheels, tires and all new brake lines, slightly stiffer and lower springs, new shocks and larger anti-sway bar. These subtle changes, utilizing Porsche factory components, result in dramatic enhancement over the already excellent handling. The slightly lowered profile and the wider rubber add to the already athletic appeal of the timeless design.
Rumors abound of a new version of the 928 coming from Porsche called the 929. It will be based on the current Panamera and will surely be priced in the super-car stratosphere. The 928 enjoyed a 17-year production run, which is no surprise as Porsche is known for building high quality and tasteful automobiles. This well-sorted and competent example will provide plenty of thrills and remain collectible for many years to come.

Very nice example with beautiful cork vinyl-leather interior. I think it is worth every penny of 15-25k if the AC works
1st thing I would do after buying it, is to take the rear spoiler off.

Time for somebody else to take control of this car and bring it to the next level.
Its an 84 Euro 5 speed. Has 86.5 front suspension and transmission, Bilsteins. Porkensioner. Silicon pan gasket and Volvo mounts. This car really scoots along. Quite fun to drive.
It needs a series of relatively light mechanical repairs (example: gas tank -- good one included), plus a whole lot of cosmetics. Full disclosure / open-honest.
$4800 firm. I've got several automatic cars that we drive leisurely as daily drivers in the summer. This one would be appreciated more by 928 enthusiast at another stage of engagement.

Through no fault of the seller this deal has fallen through. The buyer (me) is forced to take the walk of shame and back out of a killer deal on a great car from one of the nicest, most knowledgeable and helpful guys on the list. Tough phone call to make this morning but it is my problem not his. I hope this gets snatched up quickly.

All that was attempted was in good faith.
No worries!
It gave me motivation to straighten-up the car a bit and its started to grow on me again.
Maybe I'll run it down the road to Frenzy in a few weeks and reunite it with the Beerfish white car. It was pretty interesting a few years ago, maybe 08 or 09, to see these two streetfighter 84 Euros side by side, then individually blasting up and down the access road. This one is a little long in the tooth, but as good once as it ever was.
