Hi all

I'm looking to take the leap and buy a 2016 RS - I want to be as informed as I can be as far as what I'm likely getting myself into.

I'm aware of the coil/ plug issue and have read of the VIN-specific transmission replacements. There seems to be little else of concern so far, granted there are not a lot of cars and many probably don't get driven much.

I've also read a bit about the 9A1; there appears there is consensus it's a good design.

I plan to keep the car a long time but won't put too many miles on it (< 1 k/ year) - could be some track time but nothing crazy.

Please share your thoughts: is the experience and outlook looking good as far as durability/ reliability or should I start saving now for problems down the road?

If you're putting less than 1k a year on the car, I don't think reliability should be a concern...

 

Don't buy the car if you're going to worry about any problems down the road.

 

I've had mine for 9 months. I put about 2000 miles a month - summer only, live in NE - and track at least 2 days a month. So far, it's consumed one litre of oil. Oh, and 8 tires.... Not a thing has even hinted at being problematic.

Had a '14 GT3 prior to that and aside from the engine replacement, it was bulletproof also. (Same driving habits) Plus, on that one, my breakin period was 'blue light off, red line on'.

For the RS, I obeyed the guidelines to see if it'd make a difference. Not really but, of course, it's early days.

I got my car more than 6 months ago! So far so good! However, the longevity and reliability is remained to be seen!

i do know of two RS both at 6000+ miles, no issues

 

Mine is going in next week for the ignition recall, which is no big deal. Besides that, I have some friends with issues to the RWS arms getting loose. At the moment that is the only aspect that I would pay special attention to. Overall, just ensure the car is regularly checked over if you track it.

As a side note, the car is incredibly efficient with its consumables if set up well (e.g. Rear ARB full stiff). So cost of tracking is unexpectedly reasonable.

 

5000 miles no problems except for the rubbing issue.

 

Just coming up to 12 Months Old, 6K Miles, One set of tyres, one set of pads. Zero faults....5 Oil Changes, 1.7d all round, rear bar to stiff, front to middle, seems to work best.

Gas, 5-6 oil changes, 7 sets of tires, 3 sets of pads one set of front rotors, new windshield.
Hasn't missed a beat. Was rubbing after improperly lowered but re aligned and it's fine.
The car doesn't need a ton of camber. Needs rear seat bar stiff.
Can't track on fumes because car goes in limp mode, add gas and restart clears code.

Drives comfy on the street and turns into racecar at the track.

Like all cars tracked a lot you need to buy and bolt it...

Dropping it off Monday for first annual service, new tires, plugs and PDK oil change and getting oil analyzed.

 

I think those regular oil changes for heavily tracked cars is a good idea. I've started doing every 4 track days/4000 miles but looking at the frequency of Trakcar and Apollo I may have to step that up. I think doing the PDK oil change early s also a good idea. I haven't done that yet since the car was new 15000 miles ago so will add that to the annual service with the plugs at the end of the year...

I would also add Geo checks to the list, along with about 6 or so inspections. Not that anything has been required, just like to know that if I am at 10/10s all's well.......

 

Agreed Apolo. This is something. Have regularly checked as well. Comes from owning a 993 for 16 years. Those things loose their kinematic settings just looking at the car (I've replaced all my factory a arms with ball jointed stuff now eliminating the issues). Must say however the GT3/RS doesn't suffer from this issue - seems to hold get well even regularly tracked...
