I know, arguably worse than dust, but when you have a 200k+ car w/ crap paint? Possibly some of the most fun you can have w/ a 944. Take a look at my avatar for reference.
Ever since I bought the car I've been itching to do some snow driving in it. I grew up in the midwest, and often sought out empty parking lots where I could slide around in the FWD Jetta I learned on. That was quite a bit of fun, but I imagine a RWD car built for control would be far better. I live in a dry and warm part of CA, though, so finding snow means driving up in the sierras. I'm sure I'll find time for that at some point.

Racing windows. Many different designs. I haven't been around race cars very much at all, so I only have imagination to guide my direction.

I used to be fascinated with this design: But it would suck to actually cool the occupants. The sliding window looks great but I'm afraid wind noise with really bug me.

The direction I am choosing is a heavily criticized design. It comes from the Lancia Stratos. I like it because it's simple & light. It will accommodate passing a binder or folder through it. I think it will be very good for venting to the occupants, being in front not the back. Additionally I am very concerned with scratching of the future Lexan windows. I think this design will scratch areas that wont effect visibility too much... and lastly when it's sealed, it'll be pleasantly quiet.

I see a lot of high level rallyists use this, but Porsche would never install something that looks like this to one of their cars. Pissed me off because I paid quite a lot of money for it because of duty & expensive shipping.

small note: I did test it on a gravel road where I normally taste/smell gravel dust by the end of the road when rippin', and I COULD NOT detect dust. So it helped!

What is the safety hazard of having the vent in the front? Can you show a pick of where you placed it?

Fantastic Question Mate...

and now I realize I did not supply enuff info.

HERE is a pic of basically how it would look if I mounted it in the spot where I'd want it. Sharp metal just waiting to puncture heads.

The problem is the TYPE of vent I bought and WHERE I wanted the vent. It wasn't compatible. I cheaped out (still cost me like $230 bux thou). The better units are purpose built and this was generic. THAT is the problem.

But peeps still buy this style & mount it up front... I just don't think it's smart move.

Look at this picture.

(okay, you are permitted to drool)

Notice the door window. THIS is what I hope to re-create in Wilson.

Thanks!

I have a 2nd sunroof panel that I have the liner removed on that gives me just a little more headroom on the track. I was thinking of putting some sort of vent in it so I'm not so dam hot. My other thought was gt-racing (http://www.gt-racing.com/naca-inlets...art-66nd-pair/) sells clear Poly NACA ducts that can be put in plexi/poly quarter windows. A hose can then be attached to provide air wherever desired. (I'm thinking through the harness holes to the back of the neck.)

Michael, sounds like a great idea to me!
-------------
A couple of days with slow progress. And the clock is ticking... only about 2 weeks until the next event.

I'm very happy tonight. Wiring will be another job... but these 4 lightweight lights are 400 watt gross.

Windows window windows & vents...
So many choices. But which is the best?
-Requirements:

*Quiet on the highway for touring 8-9 hours on the road in a day.
*A scratch resistant design (meaning minimal scratching and friction for it's operation).
*Directs air onto the occupants facial/neck area for fresh cooling.
*Waterproof and windproof when closed.

I have longed for the typical slider style: Notice later models appear to deflect air away from the slider. Is this to reduce wind noise & dust & rain coming in?

And then I saw THIS:
If anyone is familiar with this design, please supply intell. It APPEARS to be the same classic design as above/but with a reversed or adjustable spoiler!!! (OMG, sorry that just came to me... make a spoiler that can be unbolted & flipped to pressurize the cab for rallys in gravel, but for highway or track days it can be reversed!!) Stupid idea? Does something like this exist?

What you need is an old fashioned wing window. I miss those & the way you could rotate them to act like a scoop to direct air at you. I'd us AC a lot less if any of my cars had a wing window. Ok, maybe not exactly what you need, but the reversibility you described made me think of it.

“037 was a car made for me. I promised to the team boss I would lead after the first night, and I did, even though we were against the 4WD Audis and Peugeots. But you had to take huge risks, completely mad ones. Flatout over double jumps in the rain and dark, when the notes said something else. In the end it was a car built for tarmac.” – Markku Alén, 6-times winner in 1000 Lakes Rally Finland.

All those Lancias have monster spoilers. They look so cool, but I can help but think about how bad the rear vision must be. I guess if you are going forward fast enough you'll never need to look back. lol

Trial fitment

Found out that in the province where I live (Alberta) for TSD rallies & legalities pertaining to road going passenger vehicles: a maximum of 2 driving lights & a maximum of 2 fog lights are allowed & all must be mounted lower than the centre of the headlights.
