Are the Euro fog/driving lights reversed compared to the US lenses?
With driving/fog lamps swapped inboard/outboard?
And, in the euro light housings, there is what looks like a port on the side for a separate bulb to be in the fog lamp housing..is that what it is for?
the US version is definitely different from the Euro version, the principal difference being the Euro version seems to have the extra lamp you mention that is what I refer to as a parking or side light. This illuminates when the light switch is at the first position.
The lenses also look slightly different but whether bulbs are switched position wise not sure but I have a feeling you may be correct.
By the way I have one of each! Ordered a lens from the States many years ago not knowing of this difference until the replacement part arrived. sods law, the US one survived my S4 crash, the Euro one did not and one of the Euro units on my current GTS chassis was toast when I purchased the cae so the US one end up in the current vehicle!
Silly me, I had a nice post all typed up about what needs to be cut out / rivited in to install Euro lights......... in an OB.
With the S4 isn't there still some bracket that needs to be removed? I was talking to someone last summer that said they had to get in there with some kind of cutting tool and remove a bracket.
ROW/Euro has the fog on the out-board end (where it should logically be anyway) - USA is swapped fro this for some odd reason). ROW also has the extra marker bulb in the fog lens. The ROW car side configuration allows for the fogs and the Auxiliary high-beams to be both on at the same time (USA cars turn off the fogs (if on) when the aux high-beams come on).
You don't have the stock wiring for the marker lamp on a USA car, though you could tap into the front/side marker.

Not to swap the fog/aux light assembly between US and Euro/ROW. There is a steel bracket between the fog/aux light and the corner turn-signal, to support the little rubber bumper on US cars. So to fit the Euro trim the bracket needs to be removed (after removing the bumper cover), or cut off.
We have the Euro fog/aux lights on the GT but left the little black bumper in place.

That was my plan, and to use an LED unit to not overdraw the existing circuit.
Just need to work out what 'fitting' goes in the hole.
And..the euro fogs _really_ disperse the light..way more than I recall the US lenses.

Alan:
Was/isnt there a CE patch that can be made to allow both beams to be on at the same time in a US car?

Yes, but it is hideously complex.

Change relay XIII (fog lights) to a standard '53 relay from your spares kit (same as fuel pump, horn, etc).
The USA version of XIII has an extra small contact to kill the fog lights when the hi-beams and aux lights come on. (Too much light on the road violated DOT standards at the time).
