We did just that . My 04TT is now used as a spare. Still drives like new but we purchased the 14 GTS and it is light years ahead and the next gen is even smoother but I don't like the twin turbo 6 as much as the big V8. I was looking into the Macan and no matter how much I wanted to love it the Cayenne just suited our needs much better. The PDK is nice in the macan but the revised tip in the Cayenne is much better than the earlier gen cars. It downshifts and rev matches on deceleration not much differently than the macan although the macan is a bit smoother/quicker.

Drive the newer ones before you make a decision I think you will agree. There are very few similarities to the 1st gen tip vs the current models. If only there was a way to upgrade the software or whatever makes the newer tips react into my 04. It would make a great SUV even better.

Thanks for the info. Does the new Cayenne tip have proper paddles like the PDK paddles? If the new tip is that much better about downshifting properly and had the proper paddles I would go with it over the Macan since the Cayenne has better towing and clearance capabilities.

I believe the new 958.2 Cayenne's have the new 918 steering wheel with aluminum paddles (one on each side for - & + shifting),.. verses the multi-fcn steering wheel that has the thumb button both +/- on both sides.

I even think that now the newer sport steering wheels can actually also have the heated option,... which was not the case in my 958.1 CTT back in 2011-2012.

My 2012 958.1 was ordered with the Sport Pkg (PDCC/PTV) which comes with that similar PDK Sport Steering wheel and the nicer aluminum paddle shifters. I love it. But this past winter even though I have never had one, I would have loved a heated steering wheel.

Re: downshifting, I definitely do notice it when in Sport mode,... but do not feel it much in regular mode (since the tranny is obviously programmed to be smoother & NOT noticeable). There is definitely a noticeable difference between the two.

But to be honest, when I am really pushing it (on the autoX course) I am in manual mode anyway.

But hey Cobalt, I love that you guys are driving your 04CTT forever. Well done. You are clearly getting the most out your ownership from a financial perspective. I hope to do the same with ours.

I have a problem selling things.

I love my 04TT although it is more powerful than the GTS the GTS is a superior ride. The GTS in regular mode is similar to the 04 all the time. It would be nice if we could add a sport mode to the older cars. I was concerned with owning a car like this so far out of warranty but by this point it owes me nothing and will dive it until it becomes a parts car. It still has its original battery going strong. Not sure why the 04's get a bad rap it is the most reliable Porsche I have ever owned. With only a couple of the known issues. Best yet it still looks like new inside and out.

I have the multi function wheel. I would consider switching to the paddle shift wheel but I do like the heated wheel in the winter.

I do love Macan's styling and sportiness but it was voted down due to its smaller interior space after my kids, ages 14 and 10, tried the back seat.

FWIW, my 05's multifunction steering wheel has the auto heated option but maybe the reference was to the newer style sport steering wheels.

I agree cayennes age very gracefully and most people are amazed when I tell them the car is 12 years old with 150K miles...

Regards,
Sam

2013 Cayenne GTS . . . love the sports exhaust!

If you can see the yellow ribbon behind the car, that's for my wife who was in the earthquake in Nepal. Go to her website to learn more: www.somethingdidhappen.com .
