My solid black 991 happens to have several imperfections on the hood and front bumper paint which seem to be what people here refer to as "road chips". I am adding several pictures to make sure we are talking about the same issues, this is something new for me, I had not seen this in any of my past cars.
After reading a couple of threads about Dr Colorchip I was about to order the "Dr. ColorChip Basic Paint Chip Repair Kit" to try and correct at least those on the hood.
Before pulling the trigger, I started to read about the Porsche paint kit, paint correction, nano coating and what not, and I am not sure what makes sense anymore.
My car is a daily driver in the Miami area, and I assume I am going to get more "chips" in the future, so I guess the Dr Colorchip will be OK for "disguising" those on an ongoing basis and for a low price, which I believe is what makes sense. Do I need to get the OEM paint repair kit as well' Why?
If in the future I have to do any scratches repairs (hopefully not, but not a low probability either) I will have the affected parts repainted and all the chips professionally corrected.
I think the car still looks awesome (when clean) and don't want to spend more in other protections. However, I don't want to hurt the resale value or to have to repaint the whole car for not doing something that I might be missing...
I have my front bumper wrapped with a clear film which of course helps with avoiding it, but for road chips up higher on the hood or on the fenders I've been very happy with Dr Colorchip. The color match for mine was perfect.
This happened to me thanks to hwy 95. I took my car to Fantastic Finishes here in West Palm beach (140.00) and they were able to fill and sand the spot and now I can barely see it. After this I had the front clip protected with Suntek.
