Probably a tooling Mark, that isn't where the crack was. They really went to town on it. I ended up at a little over $1000 in the head work.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge you for the repair? I ended up keeping the head and I was just thinking about throwing it on eBay. If it could be repaired by them, I wouldn't mind sending it to them.

Not bad. Do you know if they buy cracked heads? What's their contact information? I might give them a call...

Is this the "tooling mark" we're talking about? It looks like a hairline crack in the photo, but obviously you'd be able to see it much more clearly up close.

Nice work. It's all downhill from here on. Have any pictures what the weld looked like before machining?

Ill take a look when I get home. It definitely passed the pressure test etc.

I don't have any photos during the process.

Len from Hoffman Automotive Machine. He specializes in aluminum heads and he does all the head work for Jake Raby's engines. 'nuff said

Will be sending my 3.6 heads to him for a rebuild this week.

I just shot an email to Len, he said they do buy damaged heads. And said he would be interested if you have the matching valve cover and cam caps!

shoot him an email at: Info@hamheads.com.

He looked at the picture with the circled area and said ". I see the pic with the nick from the deburring tool we use to break the edges after the machine work. We do that to make sure the plastic spark plug sleeve o-ring slides into the head without getting torn. Nothing to worry about. It happens sometimes."

Ah... Cool, it obviously wasn't in a valve itself, but I wasn't sure what that hole was for (spark plug - pretty obvious now but not at the time)... Great to hear it won't cause you any problems. Looking forward to when you get it all put back together and running!

I emailed 12 pictures to the email address that you provided me. Would you mind letting Len know that an email being sent from Michael Charles was sent a few mins ago? Thanks...
