Default Laser shifter/jammers

Hi,

Does anybody know if the laser shifter/jammers (like the Escort ZR3) is legal in Alberta? Does anybody have one installed in their cars?

They don't work. The cops laser beam is smaller than a pencil and much more powerful than the low end wide band emitted by these. Also, once they realise the car has been hit by a laser, it is too late as the beam has already returned to the cops gun.

And they are illegal.

Legal in Alberta.

Call Duane at Custom Auto Electronics in Edmonton. He'll give you the straight news.

YYC 930's advice suprises me to read. I've also been considering a laser jammer. From reading on the radar forum for a year or two, my sense is that the Blinder series 20 and 40 worked well, but the updated 25 and 45 are less good. Laser Interceptor is supposed to be good, but there are some problems with distribution. Laser Park Pro is also supposed to be good, but it hasn't been approved for use in the US, whatever that means, and so...I guess has to be ordered from England.

One advantage of the LPP is that it can be set to quit emitting it's signal after 5 seconds after beign lasered, so you have time to slow down, and then allow the police laser a chance to acquire a reading, rather than give him a more-or-less tell-tale JTG (jam to gun) code.

Check out radardetector.net, where you can read all about this stuff.

In a nut shell, my take on the prevailing wisdom is that a good laser jammer plus coating headlights/fog lights/blinkers with Laser Veil will provide considerable but not absolute protection from police laser.

Laser jammers are legal in Alberta. Radar jammers however are very illegal.

Nine-11, check out the Laser Jammer conference in Radardetector.net

I'm hoping to send away for a jammer in the next week or so, in time for spring, when Calgary's finest can be expected to drop their donuts, climb out of their cruisers, and trade their Ka guns for laser guns in greater volume.

10-4 WitchDoctor. I was on QE2 today and the force was out in full. Atleast 6 of them 'policing' both N and S lanes.

I'm researching a jammer too; could care less if they're legal or not.

BC gov't is clamping down hard on speeding!

Thanks for the awesome link WitchDoctor.

Where's the best place to buy an M45 Blister jammer?
I found this site;
LINK: http://www.1stradardetectors.com/las...er/details.php
Is it OK?
Does anyone know of a better place to buy from?
Cheers,

Don't know that place, but "Radar" Roy Reyerson has a good reputation. I've bought some products from him, and he's the former radar wielding traffic enforcement officer who started the radardetector.net forum. Very informed/informative.

http://www.radarbusters.com/

I chose the Laser Park Pro for a laser jammer, not carried by Roy. It's still in the mail, though. I'll happily post an update when I have somethign to say about it.

The M20 / M40 series of jammers were highly rated. Since then, they've been superceded by the M25 and M45. While I've heard comments that they aren't as good, I haven't seen those comments substantiated by any reviews or even any anecdotes.

Nine-11, yo've gotta be really careful on that highway. Taking my son to and from his girlfriend's parents, 3 or 4 times last summer (in Red Deer), I would typically get 6 or more radar encounters. I couldn't believe how over-policed was that stretch of road. You could land a 747 on that stretch. I guess that's why there is such an opportunity..err, I mean, a safety related need to catch speeders.

I hope you have a good detector.

Thanks again Witch;
Looking at my car, I think I can only use the M25 and the M45 would just be overkill, as there is little mounting room up front? Does that make sense?

As for Calgary driving, MAN! I used to live there about 10 year ago, now when I go back there I'm always getting busted with those darn traffic cams?!? Although, I don't mind paying the tickets, I just don't want the points

Ok, I've been driving with my LPP (Laser Pro Park) laser jammer, uh, er, parking sensor for a couple of weeks now.

Already it has saved me from a clear and certain laser ticket on my way to Edmonton. Scenario is I'm in the left lane passing a clump of 4 slower moving cars. I'm 24 km/h over the limit, and I get a laser strike, I hit the brakes, 3 more laser strikes. I'm down to the posted limit in time to see two rcmp cars, under an over-pass, lasering traffic going in both directions.

I was out in the open, and he'd a had me clean were it not for the jammin'.

Again, let me raise concerns that the new blinder series (25 and 45) are not as good as the predecessor m20 and m40.

Laser Interceptor appears to be another good product, but there have been problems with inconsistent service and support.

I picked up a V1....so I'll try just the detector route and see if a jammer is really necessary. My foot isn't that heavy.
