Another team RennSpoon project
Hey guys,
Since i'm not driving my car at the moment and we at Team Rennspoon are always pushing ahead for progress i figured i would start a thread on a 3.6 engine conversion for my "old" 89 Carrera ...
It was really a spur of the moment thing as the engine appeared one
Saturday morning in our local Rennsport PCA classifieds ... since that moment i knew i had to have it.
The next day i purchased it
The original plan was to install some 964 cams in my 3.2 this Spring but things can change suddenly...
Here's a few pics of when i got the engine which was basically in boxes and had been sitting in the guy's garage for the last 12 years ,and fast forward a few weeks of gathering parts and nuts and bolts, seals, gaskets from the dealer and after forking out lots of $$$ to Patrick Motorsports for conversion parts this is what it looks like at this moment. It is complete and ready to install except for some custom conversion fuel lines from Len Cummings but they should arrive by the end of next week.
Anyhow, the conversion required an additional front mounted oil cooler and that was a real pain in the butt to fit and install as nothing lined up,but things should start moving along quickly after i drop my 3.2 this weekend !
For those interested i will post some regular updates on the progression and the plan is to be running with a fiberglass clad slimmed down 89 Carrera with a 95 3.6 Steve Wong chipped engine, hopefully for the July events at LCMT.
Cheers
Phil

Yup brother ... that's how we roll !!!
Pretty much everything on my car at this point is "cheater"
3.2 engine is coming out this afternoon so i'll be able to move on with the new throttle cable assembly installation and the 993 DME wiring harness conversion install.Nice thing about a stripped interior and Sparcos, they come out in 30 seconds and leave good access !
PS : If i remember well, this all started three years ago because of YOU Chris ... lol ...oh well,it's never too late to have a fun adulthood !!!
Cheers

Geeeshhh ... i stand corrected for the more sensitive team members who are running 930 brakes and custom valved Steve Weiner shocks as well as the ones with the "larger" turbos and ceramic coated headers ... that would be how i roll
Engine is ready to drop, should be out within the next hour or so !

The motor actually has only 15 K on it,i took a look at the valves and guides and they don't even have carbon deposits yet ...
OK ... so moving along, the engine is out and now it's time to get the new throttle cable assembly routed through the tunnel as well as figuring out the new wiring.
That should be a real headscratcher as the instructions from Patrick Motorsports are "very" vague to say the least !
There's the tough little 3.2 next to his 3.2... 6'ish bigger brother
I seem to have mastered the one man engine removal technique
Enough for today ...

so happy to see I am not the only one with a garage like that! Just be safe! the one man job is often actually best and fastest, if you plan your work and follow your plan. BUT, make sure someone is around, or your phone is really close. And when you think you may just do one more small thing today... Make it cracking a beer and cleaning your tools.
There is no job so urgent or so important that you can't tke the time to do it safely.
