Sounds like a good place to do an autocross and a skidpad. Has anyone checked it out? Broken pavement, lamps standards etc?

Next time I head to Calabogie, I'll check it out. I assume we can hire a water truck nearby to wet it down.

I will take this to the PCA exec. I miss the exercises we used to do at PMG including the infamous "barf-circle" where cars were made to spin to teach the warning signs - why we don't lift off suddenly and how to recover. It is a gap in our driver training program.

One of the track team is somewhat familiar with the site. We will check it out - stop there on the way to CMP in September. Apparently the pavement is kinda rough. We'll see. The ideal pavement is perfectly smooth like PMG. No chance of car tripping over an irregularity and rolling (Mr no arm restraints take note).

Bob, is it worth reaching out to PMG again to see if prices may have been reduced and manageable? Sounds like the right type of facility...

Best,

Matt

Matt, we did that this spring. Prices have not dropped. As I recall, 3,500 a day plus 75 bucks per car. They are also paranoid about security. Need to go to the bathroom? You must be escorted by one of their security guys. A nuisance since you have to wait for them and again to get back.

Watering costs extra of course. The plus is that the skid pad is huge, about 1 KM by 1/2 KM. Big. Really big. We held the Parade autocross there. We've done a few others and lost our shirt. Only about 50 cars showed up.

I checked the satellite images and it's a huge lot with no light standards, but smoothness could be a problem. There is also a runway for small aircraft, which could be put to some creative use I am sure.
So definitely worth a look, if not for skid pad perhaps for a DE like we did at ICAR. In fact the sun is shining, little "Pep Eh" is fueled I just may have to do a quick breakfast run...

What intrigues me about this place is that it splits the distance between Montreal and Ottawa. I really enjoy getting together with our Montreal brethren, and perhaps a location like this could help promote more joint ventures. Autocross anyone?

ICAR can probably do this. I know they did in the past but I'm not sure if it can be done for a large group.

Well Herb's truck stop is out. My idea of smooth pavement and a truckstop owners seem to be different.

Still worth a stop for breakfast though, a little pricy, but very tasty! Eggs, toast, home fries, beans, sausages, bacon, ham, pancakes with real maple syrup, jam, peanut butter, coffee with refills $8.99. Regular breakfast $6.29

Someone get the defib! I think I put another ripple in the pavement when I got back in my car.

For breakfast yes. For driving no. he told me 5 acres of paved lot. If it is paved, they have cleverly disguised it with a layer of gravel!

LOL!!

Bruce G set up a skid pad in CMP's main paddock complete with water truck on the last Club day.

A couple of CMP owners kids were running their Kanata Ford track Mustangs on it..... It looked like fun, harmless to the car but most importantly..... educational!!
