Default skid pad for Rennsport members

Any way we can have access to a skid pad?
May be a great way to learn more car control skills.

I was exactly thinking about that a few weeks ago

Even if it's just a Wet Parking, I would love to have a course on how to proper recover or stop a car when loosing control..

A big wet parking with a cone layout where you reproduce some particular error on purpose to loose control and learn exactly what to do to recover from it.. What do Do and what to Avoid..

When you loose control of your car on a Track on even on the street, it's not the time to Guess and Try.. there is no place for 'practice', you only have 1 chance to success :P

I think someone told me rennsport used to have something like that..

It's a GREAT idea, I believe Rennsport organized occasionally in the past just north of the city at one of the auto manufactureres test facilities (GM?).

Not sure what's available these days. Bob, any thoughts?

I'd be interested.

Best,

Matt

I know for sure there was one at LCMT on Sunday ;-)
I also believe there is one available at icar. If it can't be arranged at icar, There is one that stretches from the Rockies to St.John's available for free from December until March.

Great idea.

I have had the opportunity to circle a wet skidpad and though there were no specific car control exercises involved, it was still a solid way to discover how to adjust the inputs to achieve the desired control.

Cheers,
Spyro

Turns 5, 11 and 12 were the wet skidpad on Sunday

We used to go to the govt test site in Blainville but the prices went up to the point of being stupid. No others have been found suitable as yet.

I'd be happy to help but that date is a conflict with the Argentina-Chile Dakar 2011. That is one event where I am really not looking forward to the drive home. There is no Hi-test until you hit Venezuela.

Slid to the turtles twice coming out of Namrow...That spot was my skid pad on Sunday.
Rode with Chris R. in the PM Sunday...Man he can drive!

Rennsport once had such an Autocross event at the old Blue Bonnets horse track parking lot. I know it's still empty since the closing. If there's enough interest in such an event, maybe we can look into it?

The gears are turning... (hey it doesn't happen often at my age)

I just got off the phone with Hubert Rink, who owns Herb's truck stop which is halfway between Montreal and Ottawa on the 417. He has a 5 acre parking lot which is generaly empty on weekends. He is very receptive to the idea of an event at his location, but of course would be expecting that we have lunch or breakfast, or both at his dinner. Which, by the way, is ranked as the #1 truck stop in Canada.

Any thoughts?

Paul
BTW Hubert can be reached at 613 930-3141
