Default 2006 Porsche 911 4S PPI

I'm looking at buying a used 2006 997.1 4S but would want to do a pre-purchase inspection (PPI). Can you guys recommend a place near Granby I could go to get a pre-purchase inspection done?

Thanks

This is not an area to short-cut.

Needs to be done right - if you are pretty confident that you've found the right car, I'd drive the hour to WETUNE and make sure you know for sure what you are getting into.

Call Andrew.

Cheers

There is GTA in St-Hubert (if you don't want to cross the bridge):

GTA AUTO PERFORMANCE INC.
2775 Jensens St-Hubert QC 450-443-4500

One in Sherbrooke:

SPORTECH AUTO
80, Des Quatres Pins, Sherbrooke, 819-820-0477

And you can go to Porsche Rive-Sud.

Are you looking at the Silver 4S from Evolution Auto?

Yes looking at this one. Is this dealer trust worthy?

Get the car proof on it. Nearly all the cars there have big value insurance claims on them. George and Simon at GTA are good people for a PPI.

I looked at the car proof and the car was rear ended. The claim was $13K for the rear bumper and motorized spoiler. Would you buy from those guys?

Would I buy from them at retail nah as I am already a dealer and have access to the same auction as they do. However I believe we tried to buy the M3 and Cayman as a wholesale package. Didn't really budge on the price. I do know that 997 has been for sale for ages along with the R8.. You see a 997 is still a popular car and they sell quickly .. when one starts to sit around a dealers lot for ages either it's iffy or just priced wrong.

As for the claim it's about what I figured . 13k adds up fast. Carproof should be able to provide a list of what was replaced and where. If I were doing the PPI on that car at my shop for a client I would remove the rear bumper cover and see what damage there was.

these are things you can check yourself.Check if the rear shocks are leaking or are covered in oil, super common issue on 997s. Look at the front driving wheels for signs of axle grease spraying out from the cracked boots. Any flickering from the Navi screen or burn in will require the screen being replaced. At that age expect to replace the shifter cables, get the ones from Numeric. The brake fluid should be either clear or just a slight amber tint, anything darker or worse will give you a quick indication on how the car was serviced as brake should should be done every 2 years. Look for any rattling from the headliner, means the screws for the sunroof are loose or missing. Start the engine cold, there might be some smoke but will dissipate quickly. The earlier cars have a the Aisin g97/31 gearbox which when cold is a bit clunky, when warm it will.shift nice. With that much mileage it may need a clutch after a season or two. The pressure plate cracks over time.. look at the bottom corners or the radiators, a well cared for car should have no debris or junk built up in the corners. This again will tell you how it was taken care of as the junk should be properly cleaned out once or twice a year. Said junk will cause the rads to corrode

Whoever you take it to for a PPI. Make sure you get the DME report of engine hours and engine revs via PWIS or Durametric Don't worry about class 1-2 all that much. Anything in the high number 3s or 4s could be worrying. Also chassis alignment and chassis measurement print outs from an alignment machine.

Hope this helps!

You're right. It's been there for 3 months I think. Might be the time of the year. I don't think it is easy to sell a 911 when winter is coming. Or it might be that the car is not in a good condition

4S is a good all year round car. We have ours on winters and gets driven almost daily. The price is okay on that car you listed and it's been there longer than 3 months along with the Cayman. Either they aren't flexible or the insurance claim is scaring people away. Large claims scare people away, when we purchase cars to resell we try to get the ones with low mileage and minimal or no claims

However as I've posted here before. 10-15k claim on a modern car these days isn't much when a tail light or headlight is 3000$...

If i was getting a PPI done i would get a full borescope on all cylinders and from the top and bottom. I have been through the whole bore score and rebuild route and would spend the money to get this checked out thoroughly

How much should a borescope cost?
