Yep, kinda sucks don't it.

Best you can do is edit the post, delete the text, replace with a few random characters and save it.

That is correct. Only mods can now delete posts and/or threads.
Members can still edit the content of their posts for an indefinite period.

It's not perfect but it was a necessary compromise we had to make in order to protect Rennlist's technical database from "accidental" mass thread deletions.

If anyone wants a post or thread deleted, please contact one of the moderators and they will look into it.
