Well. I asked my daughter if she had windows running on her mac laptop. Yes. I'll try that tomorrow.

her computer did not have enough hard drvie space so i got a thinkpad T42 locally.

now I just can't seem to make scantool work. i get "failed to open com1"

i would go geeks.com and try to get refurbished thinkpad probably..

Which scan tool device do you have?

You can download the software with instructions and needed files at Tore B's website here:

http://privat.bluezone.no/toreb2000/t-productsEN.html

Unzip the file and you will find step by step instructions for installing and configuring the software. These work. If I recall correctly you need to choose either 964 or 993 and configure the software accordingly.

If you still can't make it work please post or PM me and I will dig out my Thinkpad and see if I can offer better suggestions. Good luck.

changed com1 to com6 and scantool starts up

yeah- it does say to identify the right port you plugged into. Glad you got it working.

I use an ACER Aspire notebook I picked up used for $100. Works fine. Very portable.

got it workin, I had not installed the usb/serial driver yet. duh? But I am used to macs.
